So with the failed bailout bil today I decided it was a good time to try out what may be in our future.

For dinner tonight instead of usual trip to our usual french restaurant for chef's choice night and a $40-$60 bottle of wine. We are livin' large on Hamburger Helper Chili-Mac and a $4/bottle of table wine!! Woo Hoo!

Ok the real reason is that someone needed comfort food from their youth after having a really tough couple of weeks and I thought this would make her feel more relaxed. She had been saying she kinda missed the old standbys for dinner every once and a while.

I think it has been at least 30 years since I had hamburger helper. Was it wrong to spice things up a bit by using some nice shallots and kosher salt in it to season?

Growing up, mom's idea of a good homecooked meal was frequently Hamburger Helper. Good stuff, even if it is made entirely out of chemicals. ;)

In preparation for the new economy, I have... watched my investments take a nose dive. :(

Maybe I should go flying to boost the economy!

If I don't open the statements, have I still lost my butt? :(

if hamburger helper is prepping for the new economy, bring it on.

Hamburger helper is actually quite good. It's rare that I have a meal that decent.

My mom, whatever her faults, never foisted Hamburger Helper on us. Sloppy Joes, boiled hot dogs, but never HH.

Given the amount of sodium that it probably already had, I'd say Yes, it was wrong.:D

When I was growing up, I hated hamburger in my macaronni and cheese, but I loved cheeseburger HH. Go figure.

Mmm... Cheeseburger Hamburger Helper...
Haven't had it in decades. Yum! Great comfort food.
Your girl is lucky to have such a thoughtful guy as you.

Too bad she hates the HH. Haven't had it in 5 years or more, except when I'm a temporary bachelor.

Me too. I lost over 3x more today than I did a week ago Monday. :(

Mine haven't updated yet, but have been surprising. I think my personal rate of return for the year is something like -32%, but over the past few weeks one of my sets of investments hasn't been doing as badly as you'd think, and has actually had some pretty decent up days. Go figure.

I'll be happy when this starts going up again. That said, this is probably a great time in my life for it to happen since it buys me more shares of stocks that I put in and thus will net me a better return later (provided the companies don't go under in the process).

Yep. I'm putting my faith in Our Lady of Dollar Cost Averaging. :D

Hmmm, maybe I'll take some of that cash from the mayonaise jar burried in the back yard and buy some newly-cheap stocks.

Scott, if you and the SO really want to live high on the hog get a can of Manwich. Now that's living!

Nah, I make better sloppy joes form scratch.

  1. Brown a 1lb of ground beef or ground turkey with onions and diced green peppers
  2. Add Ketchup and brown sugar to taste
  3. Simmer for at least 30 minutes.

Are those organic protons, neutrons, and electrons? I only buy mine from Whole Foods. ;)

I once got some organic dark matter from Whole Foods, but it spoiled before I could cook it. Next time I am getting the irradiated type from the local supermarket.

I like free range atomic and sub-atomic particles myself. Especially bosons! They add real flavor!!

Do they make Boson Strips that I can feed to my dog? :D

Well perhaps now the average middle class American will start acting/living like one again.

Sorry but MC America does NOT eat out three-five times a week. They eat out 1-2 at most.

Too many got easy money the last decade and the MC got a taste of the "good life" and hooked their arses to get it, and now STILL try to maintain it.

Why are you picking on the Management Council (MC) so much? I am sure they can what every they want with the riches they are earning off of PoA!!! ;) ;) :D :D

Sure. I just now at breakfast time realized that Pancho is a 100% natural organic sh* factory. :D

Be an entrepreneur: package it and sell it for 3 time the price of ordinary manure. There's always someone who will buy it....

:D As it is I hadda pay the neighbor kids to scoop up the 50 pounds of apples and pears (Really! I have 2 apple trees and 3 different kinds of pear trees) along with the "Pancho apples" in the back yard.... Made the trash bin especially heavy that week.

Y'know Mike, if you pick 'em before they end up in the midst of the "Pancho apples" you can eat 'em. They're free! And free food is the best food.

They don't fall in the same place. :D My neighbor tried them right off the tree but they don't 'zactly look like the grocery store kind to me.
