Anyone know of a solution to power a Garmin Aera 510 with power from a USB-A outlet? The power cable it comes with has a 12v cigarette lighter plug on it. There is a Mini USB plug on the cradle, but that is for the XM antenna, and didn't appear to power the unit when I plugged it in. I also want to use the XM, so even if it did get power I wouldn't want to use it.

This is what the power cable looks like:

Is there a sticker or embossing on the lighter plug that has the volt/amp spec?

Is there an AC adapter? Does it plug into the same port as the car adapter? What are the volt/amp specs on the AC adapter?

I used the bare wire kit. Added a separate circuit breaker just for the Garmin 500

12v 1.5a. Yes, plugs into the same place
Then it would appear that port expects 12v at 18W. USB is 5v so you'd need some sort of complex adapter to up-convert to 12v. The majority of USB chargers are 5-12W so unless your USB charger is special, it doesn't have enough oomph.
