Portage Muni (C47) Probably Closing

I stopped to fuel up at Portage Municipal Airport in Portage, WI on the way to Oshkosh as I have in the past. One of the few places that has UL94. Talked to the airport attendant for a bit and he said it looks like they will probably be closing within the next couple of years. Apparently the town is just going to squeeze it out. There's already a 4 lane highway on one end of the runway and there is some future construction on the south end that will cause them to shorten the runway further. I find it to be very sad. I like the little airport.

That’s a bummer. Have driven past the place a number of times. Haven’t landed there.

That does suck. I've stopped there numerous times also on the way to/from 6y9. Pete turned me on to the fact that they have ul94 and at a good price. Sad.

Yes a bummer. Baraboo is the closest, nice airport. Adams Co, NW a bit usually has good fuel prices. I do see town encroachment on C47.

That's too bad. I landed there as part of my long cross country in 1979.
