Help! I need to find a plastic (glue together) model of a cessna 182.
My grandson, age 5, wants one "just like grandad's".
I can only find wooden models or real flying models.
Someone point me in the right direction.
thanks

You may be out of luck trying to find a plastic 182, but for a five year old, you may be able to pass off a 172 as a 182.

If you'd rather not put one together, here's a nice ready-built, die-cast metal C-172: http://modelpower.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=2849

1/87 is the same scale as HO model trains. I have one of these at home and one at the office, and they are a surprisingly accurate model.

I've never seen a C-182 scale model on the market. For a pre-1960 straight-tail 182, the Monogram Cessna 180 model listed above would be a decent substitute.

I had so many airplane kits and parts from old kits as a kid that I ended up creating my own! Making them was half the fun of seeing if they'll fly or not! I never did figure out how to make an airplane with 4 rubber band props run at the same time on one of those huge gliders. Although, that was about the same time I got an r/c lite stick for xmas anyways.

Wow!
Thanks for all the ideas.
Yellowbird, thanks for the "over the top" help.

And that (based on my experience building the kit back "in the day") was one that you could build as a tail dragger or on amphibious floats.

They were two separate kits. One had the amphibs and the other (much harder to find in the stores) the landplane gear with the funky early-'50s MLG fairings.

OK. Then I built both of them when I was much younger. :D
