“If you ever want a fresh perspective on this job, you should check out a fantastic video of a pilot who recently transitioned from the IT world to the regionals.” I said.

“What’s his channel?” My cohort asks after we learn that we’ll be delayed for 10 minutes due to an ATC hold.

“Just Plane Silly,” I reply.

“Bryan! Oh, I know Bryan!” He exclaims.

“You do?”

“Yes, I’m on this message board called Pilots of America,” he says.

“I’m on there too! What’s your username?” I say, surprised.

“Kayoh190”

“No way! I recognize that username! I always thought you were at Delta.”

And so began a flight across the pond with conversations about all the usual topics on POA and what airplane Kayoh190 really NEEDS.

What a great discovery on my second trip with Kayoh190. Small world, indeed.

It's funny how I've now flown with Kent twice, and while I'm well aware of the Kent Wien user on PoA, I never made the connection.

Good guy to fly with - if I'm stuck flying a two-man across the pond, it's nice to be seated next to someone that makes it easy.

Such a small world!

One day while working on my beechjet type go to log into IACRA. Start typing falconkidding. Suddenly get asked by the examiner "are you on pilots of America" brief panic as i try to recall whatever dumb stuff ive posted. Surprise its mauleskinner whos evaluating me on the checkride.

Went pretty smooth good fair guy. 5 stars would return.

That was the start of an endless series of type ratings over 4 yrs 737 e190 767 dc9

Oh, and while Kent spent my money by suggesting airplanes to buy, I pushed him to attend RR next year.

That's awesome. I always imagined MauleSkinner to be The Hammer. :p

Are you guys on the 87? Which airline?

Nah, not that little thing. ;) We're on the triple. And you know my airline - your (former?) Mooney parter has been my check airman!

Randy is still a partner on the Mooney. He’s retiring from the airline shortly and we plan to do some bicycling soon.

That's fantastic. Small world indeed.

The Assassin, actually. But I’m not allowed to tell applicants that.

But it has nothing to do with me being an examiner…a former coworker left me a voicemail, and my phone transcribed it…

That's wild.
It really is a small community. I frequently come across people that I wasn't aware I already knew because we engaged online only.

For what it's worth, I was randomly cruising the hotels in Sacramento in search of drinking partners a few years ago, and this handsome bald man stepped out of the lobby door. I said hey let's go drinking. He said sure. I said you look like an airline pilot. He said I am. I said hey I know some airline pilots on this message board called Pilots of America. He said no way, what is your username? I said I'm eman1200. He said oh, you're the guy that uses this fictional character named Sac Arrow as his alter ego. I said ya. He said I'm kayoh190.

This is a surprisingly believable story.
