My wife and I are going on a Alaska Cruise this summer. One of the stops is in Juneau and I want to rent a plane there and go on a sightseeing flight. Do any of you live or fly in that area? Does anyone have recommendations on FBO's to check out?

This would just be a one time event, so I'd want to schedule a flight with an instructor.

A lot involved flying in and out of Juneau. Instant IMC" being one. Don't know if you could rent a plane, however, there is a flying service that does tours there. But then you'd be a passenger.

I did that! Lots of fun. Met the guy on the Red Board. Let me dig out my logbook, the receipt is still there, it makes a great souvenir. You can see a glacier from the airport, the one the cruise line will take you to for several hundred bucks each. Instead, we flew down the channel, turned inland and flew around and over another one, circled a bear on the way back. It's nothing like flying down here. Tall, steep mountains, deep water up against them tops lost in clouds . . . My wife managed 10-15 minutes of video on the camcorder, and 100+ photos with the camera on a 1.2 hour flight, and she sat in the back.

That's exactly what I want to do! If you could pass along the info, that would be great.

If you make it down to Ketchikan you can charter a caravan and I'll take you wherever you want to go.

I used to live there about 10 years ago and there was a guy I used to rent a plane from. I'm not certain but if I recall, I think his name was Stewart Long. Had a couple of planes available back then.

That's all I got, best of luck.

Ketchikan.....isn't that like a suburb of Seattle? Just don't drown while swimming to the airport....:lol::lol:

Got off the ferry there and did a short walking tour, then had lunch at the AP Grocery. Looks like a cool little town.

How much does it cost to charter a caravan for an hour or two scenic flight?
