Little info so far. Social media is saying the pilot is dead.

[RotorDude]

Apparently one dead in an SR-22, per this link.
No chute?

Bad link

Fixed.

One of the witness comments "it sounded like a missile"

I'm going to speculate ... SR22, no chute, sounds like a missile,

Incapacitation of some sort. RIP

[Mike Smith]

That is a very small debris field...........

The weather around here today was perfect.

[RotorDude]

My guess is that on the touch and go it was too low for useful chute deployment.

[pbramlett]

Possibly N1116C. If so, its been wrecked before.

Wrecked back in 11 doing touch and goes.

Sad deal, RIP

Well.... Clearly there was plenty of fuel on board....

[RV10flyer]

Looking at photos and satellite images, it appears the crash site is 1/4 mile short of Rwy 34.

This is in one news story..."There’s no word yet on what caused the fire."

Really.

Probably the plane flew too low and went through a grass fire causing it to crash. Smh...

[frfly172]

Very sad,may he rest in peace.

[MyassisDragon]

Crash on approach.....too slow....Stall

[Somedudeintn]

Just heard about this. Very sad news indeed.

This is in one news story..."There’s no word yet on what caused the fire."

Lack of flight plan.

Really.

The only way that statement would make sense is an inflight fire.

Careful, you may be quoted on that....

[BigBadLou]

Waiting on the NTSB preliminary report, that is one strange crash in an open field.
R.I.P.

Someone on the red board from the area intimated a base/final stall/spin. I think that is likely considering the tight debris field.

[SixPapaCharlie]

Careful, you may be quoted on that....

Probably considering I fly the same model Cessna that was in the crash.

This is in one news story..."There’s no word yet on what caused the fire."

Really.

Ran out of fuel and landed right on top of a burn pile. Happens all the time in South America

[TangoWhiskey]

The fact that they plead to be searching the wooded area so far from the main wreckage in the photo above makes me think he might have hit the tree tops.

Bad week for Shelby County pilots. Another fatality.

Not much info there.

Heard this at KEET the other day. Wife of a mechanic at KEET was walking out of a Publix, which is 2-3 miles from the airport, and said it was running rough (sputtering) as it flew overhead towards the airport. Also the rocket did go off after it hit the dirt and was found a short distance away from the crash site. I wonder if the pilot ran a tank dry and didn't switch to another tank in time? Not familiar w/ Cirrus planes.
