Pizza Delivery

The linked worked fine, and the pizza looked great. Thanks for posting

Cool. I'll be at IWI (well Booth Bay Harbor, but landing at IWI) next month. Might have to do a fly by.

Neat video. I would have like to have seen them use a warming bag, or just par cooking the pizza to reheat on the island, but I'm a pizza snob.

Wasn't one of the advantages of being friendly with the COD crew on an Aircraft Carrier is that they'd fetch you pizza and beer?

Not altogether certain why someone would need an airplane to deliver pizza. The stuff isn't he hardest thing in the world to make by a large margin.

I and former wife have been flown to Matinicus by the bearded pilot in the video. Great bunch of guys at Penobscot Island Air(KRKD).

I once flew out to see my son whose unit was on a training exercise at a nearby NG base. I took a big Marine Corps birthday cake for them to share.

Incoming Traffic - first three shots; 4th is from the inner end. The first image shows Camden Hills in the background, about 20 miles in the distance.

(Same pilot - bearded fellow - who was seen in the video clip.)

#1 and #3 = runway-end lights/markers. #4 when we were headed back to Rockland(either a 206 or a 207 -- don't remember).

One of the Alaska airplane shows had a pilot delivering pizza by Cessna.

I did a charter from Fairbanks to Kantishna Roadhouse Lodge to deliver 30 pizzas, the band and their equipment. All in a C-206.

Don't ask the total weight for the load.....

While living in Kotzebue, it was not unusual at all to get a food delivery from the restaurant for the evening flight out to a village.

Pizza, we deliver in 3 days or less or its free....

Yeah, what's the cost of that pizza?

You just really need....want....gotta have a pizza.

And the cost is not really that bad, some companies will deliver pizza or other restaurant food on a regular scheduled flight for just 10 bucks.... up to 15 pounds or so. Just need to set it up between the airline and the restaurant to get the food at the airport just before departure time.

Charter rates may be a little more expensive, if you charter a plane just to bring you a pizza.....:yesnod:

The fastest (short of having your own jet) way of getting something to a distant city is often to ship it as cargo on passenger flight. We had a site find out that they screwed up their backups on their distributed copy of our database. With the face of their whole facility being down for a day, I made them a new harddrive from my site and took it to Dulles, put it on a United flight and they picked it up from Logan. Fortunately our two offices are within 20 minutes of the two endpoint airports.

Now I'm tempted to order a pizza an hour away for pickup and go fly to it.

That's really cool but wouldn't it be cold and not very fresh by the time it got there? Also expensive... you'd think they'd just do take & bake or something.

I'd deliver pizza and beer in the CA delta by boat, people pay a lot to get pizza and beer delivered to their party...

When I was in school, there was a pizza place owned by an ex-Army chopper pilot, and one of the services he offered was to deliver pizza by helicopter. This was in Nashville and one of the folks in the music biz would occasionally take him up on it.

Their pizza was fabulous, btw.

When yer on an island without many options things like cold really don't matter.

I've seen watermelons flown out to an offshore drilling rig...

They do have modern conveniences in the bush villages, like stoves and micro-waves.

Some people even have outhouses with walls around them..!!!

When I lived in Kotzebue we called Taco Bell in Fairbanks and ordered 200 soft tacos. They made them, then froze them and shipped them. We would toss a few in the micro-wave to warm them up and enjoy. Not the same as being in the restaurant, but close.

I did land on the highway near Tanacross once to pick up two fresh peach pies from a small restaurant to deliver to some guys working a gold mine. I owed them a favor and knowing how they like peaches I thought they might like dessert.

Like Clark1961 said... when your in the bush it doesn't matter, just having something that you didn't have to kill yourself can be a real treat.
