In lieu of Thanksgiving many will be having pie for desert. So I ask. Do you put Whipped cream (Cool Whip variation not the can stuff) on it? If yes, do you stir the whipped cream first?

My husband says you DO NOT EVER stir it first. Thoughts?

I thought this bread was going to be about St. Petersburg airport.

But assuming you mean pumpkin pie out of context, I like to put canned (the spray stuff) whipped cream on it if it's there. Heck, I'll put the stuff you need to stir on it too, I guess. I don't care for it on other types of pies though.

Back in the day when I used to eat pie...

Cool Whip is not Not NOT whipped cream.

Whipped cream is cream with a high butterfat content that's been whipped (whip it good!) and may have sugar added. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whipped_cream).

It (in my not-humble-at-all opinion) is the only topping for pumpkin or other "mushy" pies.

You can get whipped cream in a can, that is real cream... The act of shaking it and then the pressurization and the physics of the nozzle produce the same sort of "air trapped in fat bubbles" result as whipping cream in a bowl.

We made Apple and Pumpkin Pie today, to be ready for tomorrow. And we have whipping cream ready to whip as well.

Stir!

Apple pie topped with vanilla ice cream is on our menu.

When we have pumpkin pie we'll top with ice cream or Cool Whip (stirred, not shaken,) depending on the eater's preference at the time.

One of the few memories I have of "cooking" when I was a kid was whipping the cream with sugar and vanilla. The best part was licking the remainder off the beater.

I like pretty much any type of whip cream (can or hand whipped). I don't know much about Cool Whip, other than seeing a few commercials. When I am eating healthy, I wouldn't consider either to be on the menu.

You eat Cool Whip frozen, like ice cream. As a side dish to Pumpkin Pie.

The real whipped cream is only good for causing diarrhea.

Did anyone else read "Cool Whip" in Stewie Griffin's voice?

LOL... Yes.

Stir Cool Whip Brand, no. Whip the crap out of the real stuff? Yes. We have canned stuff for tomorrow but its all good. And yes, frozen Cool Whip is a side dish. Agreed. Heh.

We had a lovely dinner at a new-to-us fancy pizza place with airplane co-owners (who are headed out of town tomorrow with the airplane for the weekend -- the nose strut is all pumped back up, by the way...) right near KAPA, which had a lovely Pinot Grigio house wine -- and that with a nice Italian pear salad and a little artisan pie cooked in a wood fired oven. Perfecto!

Then I had to go to the office and work tonight from 9PM until about 2AM. Patching. Good downtime on servers to get it in while no one is using them.

(This is coming back to Cool Whip, really...)

So... I knew Karen was baking pies for tomorrow. Came home to a lovely smelling house. Awesome.

Check out these beauties...

Man, I love it when she has time to cook! :)

Those don't even really need Cool Whip! Man oh man.

Tomorrow (er, later today) it's turkey, green bean casserole, rolls, taters, devil'd eggs, veggies, and stuffing.

Heavenly.

Any Colorado or other PoA'ers with no other plans are more than welcome... Three of us can't eat all of this. More than welcome to share.

Supper is around 2PM or whenever the turkey breast is done.

You heathen. Cool Whip isn't cream at all. It's a non-dairy desert topping.
Whipped cream is made by taking heavy cream and ....wait for it ... whipping it.

As for eating it, I tend to just spread it over the top of the pie so I get a more uniform pie-to-cream ratio with each bite :)

Kids.. Kids... Kids....

Real Whipping cream will harden your arteries.

Cool Whip is a synthetic feel good excuse..
An excuse it is. Cool Whip is made up of a lot of tropical (coconut/palm) oils which is arguably WORSE FOR YOU than milk fat.

In lieu of? I intend to have Thanksgiving as well as pie for dessert. I say DO NOT EVER put Cool Whip on pie, as it is unfit for that lofty perch. Real whipped cream only.

Cool Whip is a dessert topping, sand is a desert topping.

Cool Whip is foul, but it isn't non-dairy. It has always contained casein, a milk product, and a few years ago was reformulated by adding skim milk and light cream to the recipe.

I don't spread, I maneuver the can to sculpt the proper amount of whipped cream on to the pie. The proper amount is reached when the pie can no longer be seen.

They used to bill it as non-dairy. They had to stop that when the kosher community got upset by the casein.

I always thought Cool Whip was made of petroleum by-products. If I'm going to indulge in something not good for my health, at least make it the real thing. But then, like Mari, I make whipped cream from scratch - to put on the hot chocolate made from scratch, and the homemade pies my friends make from scratch for today.

I am like Mari too.... Except I don't stop at the licking the beaters.. I usually eat all the whipped cream before it gets on the pie...:redface:

I laugh at the people that extoll the virtues of real whipped cream over Cool Whip or other fake stuff. Come on, it's the fat and sugar overload from desserts that will cause you to go diabetic and die a horrible death as your arteries literally explode, not the topping alone.

Eat raw carrots and skinless turkey people, not cake and pie!

A good mom lets you lick the beaters, a great mom turns electric beater off first!:D

Hey, we had electricity and electric beaters in the 60s even in the sticks of South Dakota.

We were in the wilds of NJ. :D

Come to think of it we had one of those big electric mixers that you make cakes with but not a small electric hand beater.

I am in Wyoming... They promised to bring us electricity sometime in 2019.. We have our fingers crossed it does not get put on the back burners of the gas stove...:yikes::lol::rofl:....

Now I know for a fact you're stretching it a little. I built many miles of power line in WWW (Wild Windy Wyoming) in the 70s. :)
Happy Thanksgiving.

Given what I scanned on the first page of this thread, I am unable to read more.
Whipped topping does not equal whipped cream ... there is no question to be answered (other than WTF are you doing ruining pie with whipped topping, unless you're also eating "pie" :( )

Just got back from my daughter's in-laws for thanksgiving. They made us a big bag of leftovers. Tomorrow's breakfast will be pumpkin pie and ... BACON!
