Photos of Boats AND airplanes

Thanks Troy - yes, that is one of the prettiest blues I've ever seen. Glacier Lake Blue - a good name for a crayon!!

ps. check out all 4 galleries - one thing about the Great PNW - boats and airplanes figure heavily into daily life. I really really enjoyed my visit - I could see myself living there pretty darn easily.

OK, Elizabeth, you have my vote for Official PoA Photographer. Beautiful!

And we'd be happy to welcome you to our corner of the world. Just remember, most of the time it's wet and dreary. Summers, on the other hand, are spectacular.

Nice images Elizabeth, but you're still going to hell for the "Pull my Finger" gag...:fingerwag:

Skip, that's a really nice compliment. I guess I won't show you the rejects. ;) Thanks.

Ghery, I'm sure all that green must come at a price - I still think it's just stunning.

Henning, I am sure there are many other reasons I'm going to hell. :)

If the new 990 IS offers full manual I'd jump on that. That's pretty cool. Why they feel they have to offer 14.7 mp is beyond me though - it just seems like overkill for a P&S. You are going to have huge files from that. FYI, the 880 has a wider angle lens and will also focus a little closer, and is also slightly smaller and lighter with a bigger LCD.

Thanks for the link! I agree, almost 15MP seems ridiculously high for a P&S.

For those looking to take their photography to the next level, the Digital IXUS 980 IS [known as the SD 990 IS in North America] offers a first for Digital IXUS: a Manual Mode that allows control of shutter speed and aperture. This is ideal for unusual lighting situations or expressive, experimental shots. For split-second photo opportunities, a second new mode – QuickShot – uses the optical viewfinder for framing and focusing, virtually eliminating shutter lag.

I guess an alternative would be an actual DSLR, since we don't have one. Not sure I can afford both, though, and something small to carry with is what I really need. (Okay, "want and would find most useful."):wink2:
