So need to attend an event in Norcross, GA in a few weeks. Norcross is basically in the middle between Peachtree-Dekalb (PDK) and Gwinnett County (LZU). For you Atlanta folks, any druthers? We’ll be coming up from the South East IFR if that makes a difference.

Any experience with either of LZU’s 2 FBOs? Airnav was of no help.
I used the one right next to the restaurant; they fueled the plane for us while we ate. Restaurant was great. No complaints about the fbo other than the gas was expensive, although it was cheaper than pdk.

There was a bizjet and a Mercedes parked on the ramp with a bunch of people milling around. Eventually we figured out they were filming a rap video. The guy in the restaurant told us it's a fairly common thing. The owner of the plane & car rents them as props for the videos. This has nothing to do with with your question other than I found it amusing.

LZU all the way. PDK is an absolute zoo and is expensive to boot. Only place I've been where the controllers got so saturated they announced "Everyone outside of the airspace wanting in, remain outside the airspace and silent on the frequency. We'll make an announcement when we can handle additional traffic."

I used Gwinett Aero when I was there. It was a pleasant experience but not memorable in either a good or bad way.

I overnighted at PDK last Oct.

Nice people. Good service. I think I bought 20 gallons and avoided the ramp/parking fee. I used Epps.

I prefer Aircraft Specialists/Jet Center on the south side at LZU. Been dealing with them for over 20 years.

Definitely LZU. Much easier in and out. Used to rent for years out of PDK, but forced to LZU to get hangar space when I bought. Fortunate circumstances, much happier at LZU. I live just north of Norcross and equal drive time.

Interesting news about PDK. It seems that Pat Epps is hanging up his spurs and selling the FBO.

uh oh......will someone be attending more PoA flyins now? :(

Probably not. New owners plan on expanding the charter department. When i introduced myself to one of them as Chief Pilot, he said “You’re about to get real busy”.

plus, I will probably loose access to the Bonanzas I have been borrowing. I may just have to buy a plane. :)

Wondered if the 'bo went with the deal. Hope you're as busy as you want to be, and not too much more ;)

I vote for LZU. Easy in and out overnighted ,friendly FBzo with good staff.

How much money you got? ;-)

May be going into LZU on Weds for quick visit to Alpharetta. Any reason to prefer one of the FBO's over the other?

Consider RYY. I honestly think it’s the best bet for Alpharetta. I also prefer LZU over PDK. They have a small, but decent FBO and it’s generally less busy. PDK is the Teterboro of Atlanta.

We used Gwinnett Aero, now Sheltair, on our trip to LZU last spring. No complaints.

Me? LZU. Fairly direct route from there to Alpharetta. Distance is roughly the same as RYY. LZU is a buck a gallon cheaper on fuel.

Alpharetta, home of of the roundabouts. I’ll be the devil’s advocate here and recommend Cherokee County airport. No air traffic and far less ground traffic when coming into Alpharetta from the north.

Arriving VFR from south-southeast, so LZU is easiest. Don't have to fool with ATL airspace.

Rental car or Uber to Alpharetta?

Another vote for a rental-- the drive to Alpharetta (The Golf Club of Georgia and nearby Hilton Garden Inn) was pretty straight forward for us but IMO further than you'd want to Uber except in an emergency. Enterprise is less than a mile from Gwinnett Aero/Sheltair on the north side of the field.
