Anyone else notice that the propellant in the can is gone when it is half full?
I have half full cans at work.home and the hangar that are dead.
I guess I should give them feedback.

Yes. Popped a hole in the cans and drained them into a bottle, use an eyedropper where I can.

Switched to Kroil for spray.

The company knows this happens.

I now use a 1940’s oiler can filled with the lubricant or penetrator of choice.

I like it, but a little flame and a little squish applied to the tip of the laboratory bottle will enable the fluid to traverse great distances with a little squeeze.
very true.

The reason I chose an old can? I already had it in my garage. If I had to buy it, your lab bottles would be top notch.

I have a refillable aerosol can I bought many years ago that still works fine (usually filled it with avgas). This one has the same top cap and Schrader valve as mine:

There are videos on YouTube regarding recharging retail aerosol products. haven't tried it myself, so YMMV.

I bought one of these and fill it from my gallon of pb:

Sprays a lot better than the aerosol cans, too. I was worried about the solvents eating it, but it's held up for a year so far. I need to order another for wd40.

I was really impressed with kroil, but man it's so expensive. It is better, but not enough better to justify double the price.

I was wondering if those things worked at all. Was thinking about one for Brake Cleaner recently..

Seriously, give acetone and atf a shot. I've seen people "test" and it has won out. Kroil was second.

Well, I have both of those things on hand, so I guess there's nothing to lose. I always heard that mix talked up on gun forums, and tried it myself, but was disappointed in that application.

Use MEK instead of acetone…

I may try making my own custom mix like suggested above. But still means I need a sprayer.
I have have several sprayers like showed above over the years.
They are OK, kinda PIA to stop and refill, pressurize and hope they don't leak. I wore 2 of them out in the past. And I use lubricates in 3 locations/shops. So I would have to buy 3 of them.
It's so aggravating to grab a can when your busy and its's half full and dead. I have taken a air hose pressurized up the can but that really didn't work that well for me.
That's like a ripoff from PB Blaster.
Then just yesterday I grab a can of chain lube out of my truck to lube the chain on our gate at a remote bulk plant and nothing comes out. Guess what, it was PB Blaster chain lube. ****er

My wife uses Madison Reed hair dye. The dye applicator bottles work great for these tasks, and they are "free."

I might try mineral spirits over acetone so it doesnt evaporate as quickly

Pretty sure the project farm guy did a test of all of these. I don't remember which one won.

Not sure if it was Project Annoying Voice Farm - could’ve been another test - but Liquid Wrench beat the other penetrating oils. I think Blaster was middle of the pack.

For some context, most turbine and helicopter shops only permit use of Kroil and AeroKroil. Some OEMs even push its use only for the simple reason it works. Will a R-985, C-90, or 172 know the difference between Kroil and the others? Probably not. But given my experiences, Kroil is the only thing I've used on anything aircraft. Everything else Blaster and Liquid Wrench no problema. And just to note on why a lot of home brews fail when using acetone and other solvents is they evaporate too quickly. Now using acetone, MEK, avgas to find a through crack in a cylinder or other metal item, they work just fine.
