Parachute jumping...crazy?

Not yet...winds were too high last weekend for static lines. Now it's getting cold and I'm thinking this is a warm weather endeavor! We will see...

I'm sure the jump plane pilot will keep after me since we are resuming his multi training next week.

I'd wait for warmer weather. It's most of a day outdoors, then you go up a few thousand feet and go out in the breeze.

I never attended a dying patient who talked about wishing he had done a parachute jump - lots of other things, but not that.

I used to fly divers - after the last one was out I pulled the throttle back and rolled into a steep turn and watch the meat bombs for a second, always shaking my head. I have zero desire.

Hey Jonesy, why don't you go to the Bondurant High Performance Driving School, or the Gunsite Academy (recommended), or take a couple of hours of dual in a chopper, or get that floatplane rating, instead?

Racing school is very fun. I may be biased, sports car racing is my first love.

If anyone's looking for something in the alternative aviation category, hang gliding is awesome. If you train on a hillside or using a scooter tow, you get to go solo your first day. After skydiving and power plane flying, I tried hang gliding and realized it was the aviation experience I was looking for.

I used to skydive and unlike most I loved the part under open canopy and not the free fall . I stopped because of bad knees . as far as safety ,I think it's safer than a single engine aircraft if you don't do crazy things . As for the age it really doesn't matter as long as you are not in too bad a shape like bad back bad knees or have major heart issues . At our drop zone we had a 70 years old tandem instructor . Just go have fun and it's never too cold to jump, it's only 45 degrees colder at 15000 feet . :D I promise for your first few jumps you wouldn't notice the temperature .

I've flown jumpers and made over 400 jumps myself. Made my last jump in my late 50s. You are more likely to break something on landing unless you're in better shape than the normal mid-50s male. Other than that, no, you aren't crazy. (At least about jumping.)

At least one of them was AFF. His last one might have been a tandem.

The 85th and 80th birthday ones were tandems with the Golden Knights. Earlier, for his 75th and right after he left the presidency he did some jumps under a single canopy, I would assume AFF.

Those weren't his only jumps, but unlike his first the plane continued to work

I recall our old Sgt Major in Army ROTC saying, "Two things fall from the sky. Birds&*t and fools!" I don't think he was a fan of airborne. :D

That is because he was a fcuikng leg..... He probably washed out of jump school at one time or another.
