Paperwork snafu = government takes your bird

Um it's different because he did not have any drugs in the plane. And because the contraband (20mm guns) were not on the plane, and the plane was not used to bring them in.

Buy a used car. Get busted yr later @ the border for the kilo of cocaine(you had no knowledge of) hidden the gas tank. Even IF you get off, the car is gone. How is this different? Losing a major asset incidental to a violation is commonplace. This is just a more expensive vehicle. Nothing new, move along. Dave

"Nothing new" doesn't make either the confiscation of the aircraft or your hypothetical, right.

In your hypothetical, "innocent until proven guilty" still applies, too. Barely. At great expense.

They have more money and lawyers than you and I, purchased with loans written against our paychecks because we're stupid enough to keep voting for it.

What you are missing is how the bust went down. Think of it like a big drug bust where the DEA goes in and finds a bunch of drugs and of course drug dealers probably have a bunch of guns. DEA doesn't care about the guns, but they call the ATF who does.

Nothing new, move along.

THAT is precisely the response they want, they count on.
Acceptance of their evil.
Do NOT be a part of the problem.
We all must fight this.

Amen brother. What's next confiscation of aircraft because an AD expired?

It is not an airplane thing. it is a criminal thing. The police/government routinely confiscate the property of those who break the law. Unless you want to put forth the idea that just because it is a rare and cool war-bird that all law should be suspended and the buyer/owner allowed to violate ATF & Import laws , just because it is a cool airplane?

Let's find some non-tax and non-War-on-Drugs examples where the item confiscated was not related in any way to the law broken.

(In taxes, tax liens are common. In War-on-Drugs stuff, they passed some special laws to make things extra painful for the drug lords. Neither seem to apply here.)

Example: Contractor screws up building permits and has explosives on the site. Maybe they'll come confiscate the explosives, but not the truck they were using to haul them around in.

Get real... all this "confiscation" is just a government run wild. We used to make fun of the Soviets and their failed ideas and system for doing stuff like this when I was young. Now we live it, daily? Enough. Really.
