Wow, that sucks. The Branson area doesn't have much hospitable terrain outside of the airports' environments.

This morning, after the fog lifted, it's crystal clear. I know one of his CFIs and he is totally shocked that the pilot would do this. Of course we don't know all the facts but this is tragic and hits close to home.

Weather here last evening was MVFR. So he launched into MVFR at dusk and the clouds socked in pretty quickly after sundown.

What's sadder yet is that one can DRIVE from Gardner to Branson in 3+30. Best case, flying would've saved them an hour...taking into account the slow dance that's required at both ends when flying.
