Overhead break?

Yeah if the controller is experienced and knows his equipment the PAR is still a viable option. Also helps to have an experienced pilot. Students controlling with a student flying something like a T-38, forget about it. That's an absolute mess.

Yeah, I think we did do that on rare ocassions with T-45s and T-38s. Sometimes there was just no training benefit at all. The student controller can't keep up and in the case of a T-38 doing 180-190 kts doing half standard rate turns on final...ugly. If it was a weak student generally we wouldn't put them through that. Take a break and wait til we get one of our local squadron Hornets to get back on position.

As an IP in the front seat of a T-45 with a student under the bag in the back, it was hard not to slip in a little bit of rudder occasionally to help get pointed back toward the airfield! Lol
