Someone told me airlines and FAA are now using oral screening? Since when? I thought it was alwayd the samhsa urine test?

May 2023? The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), as part of the Department of Transportation (DOT), allows for oral fluid drug testing as an alternative to urine testing for safety-sensitive positions, as outlined in 49 CFR Part 40. This means employers can now choose between urine or oral fluid testing for drug screening.

I see that marijuana doesnt show up as long as urine. I wonder if people will take advantage of that? Im guessing they test for the same drugs?
It's pretty much the same for blood as saliva. Urine detects THC metabolites longer. However, it is random testing. If you think you're going to "take advantage" of the shorter duration, you're playing a rather risky game.

What the DOT sez you might do, vs. what a HIMS AME sponsor sees fit to do, are frequently not identical.

Probably liking the saliva test b/c few people run out of spit....whereas a number of airmen might not have the other bodily fluid available as needed (or, might say they have none to try avoid the test altogether)

You're warned to get rid of that stuff before you provide the sample. Again, as far as what the OP was talking about, you don't get advance notice and you must produce a sample (and you're not going to delay it long enough for the pot to wear off). Getting rid of your chaw, or gum, won't take long.

If you don't comply with getting rid of your chaw, you fail and go to HIMS. A Failed test is a positive test.
