I live on an airpark in AZ that presently has runway restrictions set by the CC&Rs to fixed wing piston engine aircraft less than 6001 Lbs Gross weight.
There is a move to eliminate this restriction allowing helicopter and turbine aircraft operation.

One group says yes remove restrictions, property values will increase since we will welcome more people. The other group says No never ! No helicopters no turboprops.

If you lived on an airpark how would you vote?
Thanks

Paul

You either live on an airpark or you don't. Get rid of those restrictions.

If you have to vote, vote liberty. Dump the restriction. Meet some nice new folks with jets and helicopters.

Haha airplane pilots have such an inferiority complex. Someone moves in with a pc12 and instantly the Bo and Cirrus pilots are (relative) white trash. Humans are hilarious, airparks are gay.

Helicopters are noisy, turboprops? probably not much more than most prop planes.

Airparks are for all aviation enthusiasts ,get rid of the restrictions.

Is there a concern with a weight limit secondary to blacktop thickness or substrate?

If you live at an airpark you would think you'd actually like airplanes. It baffles me why people move into an airpark and don't want to see all types of airplanes.

Then again, in AZ people seem to think that if they buy a house near an airport the airport should cease operations. Also baffling.

What a rediiculous restriction. Sounds like a mooney owner doesn't want to find out there are bigger better birds in the sky. (No offense mooney owners)

Turbines stink, don't leave your exhaust blasting and choking me and I'm fine with anything but a Harrier. Helicopters are fine.

Dump the restriction, besides rumor has it folks with turbines and choppers have a few pennies to rub together.

Add to that, quite a few turbo props are actually quieter than most piston pounders. Ever see a PC12 on final? Cause most folks never said how they heard one before they saw it.

Unless there is some sort of pavement structural concern, aircraft are aircraft.

That is NOT an Arizona thing. That happens everywhere.

What was an AZ thing was when the developers of Sun City West built huge retirement neighborhoods right next to long standing dairies and sold the homes to elderly folks without them even seeing the property before they signed.

If they hadn't sued to close down the dairies, we could have had Chino East instead of Sun City West!

Some turbine and helo owners can be real dicks who think that they own the airport. Your airpark may change significantly if you invite that clientele. Also, look at what your HOAs insurance coverage costs now. Increasing the size of aircraft allowed to land there may drive up your insurance cost.

Is this Indian Hills ? I doubt there are people itching to base a jet at a 2200x40ft runway.

Prejudice much?

I agree with this. Our love isn't for aircraft 1, aircraft 2 but not aircraft 3. Our love is for "aviation" period. The more the merrier!

There's douchey people everywhere, even here, that like to pretend they own the place. You just let them stand in the corner like all the rest. We'll all still have a good time!

Yep, it's not the aircraft you have to worry about, it's who's in the aircraft that will be a problem or not. The richer they are, the more risk they are to your peace and happiness though, so to ignore that factor is foolish. The richer they are, the more careful you have to be is all.

My guess is the initial restrictions were based on noise or dust potential. Helicopters can raise a lot of dust and throw stones hovering over a desert.

I've seen helicopters cut across open gravel/dirt between runway to taxiway instead of following the paved taxi lanes as a airplane would. Threw a lot of junk, rocks, tumble weeds etc, all over the taxiway and ramp. Plus a sand blasting of the nearby aircraft.

You guys are making justifications up to defend your egos. Airparks are just expensive themed hippy communes and will fall apart just the same.

I live at an airpark. We have helicopters, turbine come and go. Its not a big deal and I like to hear them. When sleeping I never hear them and I am a light sleeper.

As to the people who believe they walk on water and act that way, as soon as I find this out about you, I will be asking you to leave and please do not return. Asking is the nice way of saying, you will be run off the property. I have done this.

Local RC club hold events here. One morning before sunup I am at my hangar and getting my airplane ready for sunup. As soon as the sun was up I was rolling. When I land the president of this club along with about 15 people approach me. The president walks up and says " I was sleeping so very good then all of a sudden I get woke up by this loud airplane. Don't you know people are trying to sleep". The RC people camped out in campers.

I said: imagine you come to an airpark and hear airplanes, who would have thought? He says a few other things then walks off nose held high.

We have a man who built a home across the street from our runway. Off to the side a little but right off the end across the road. He will stand outside in his yard with his hands on his hips when you come in to land. I wave at him. He learned not much he can do about a landing and taking off airplane, but he does not like this airpark. The airpark was here 15 years before he built his house.

No, you need to grow weed for it to be a hippie commune, and you need prostitutes. That is how a hippie commune is funded, naturally.

Air parks are what the tenants make of it. I have been a guest at several from the yurts and huts and ultralights around a 1000' of grass to multi million dollar hangar-home-guest house air parks where jets land. I have seen both models succeed and fail, and I have even seen a mix of both at the same park work well. It really depends on the people in the community. Why do they want to live in an air park? The people who answer, "so I can live with my toys", will be a different sort of neighbor than the one who answers, "because I hate living in the city and this makes commuting so much faster."

These people have different expectations from air park life. Neither is good or bad, but if among your community everyone has the same expectations, then the chances that everyone has a good experience are much higher; and that is regardless of the income/wealth spread across the community.
