A friend (glider pilot) in the UK sent a number of us this message and the attached picture. Got to love their sense of humor...

"I missed this event at my gliding club which happened on Wednesday
afternoon. The RAF Shorts Turcano training aircraft had a complete
engine failure and dropped in. It managed to avoid people and gliders on
the runway but overshot the runway end as it arrived rather hard and
burst both main wheel tyres thus reducing its braking efficiency. No
injuries and it will be flown out.

Both instructor and pupil were given out standard certificate for
completing a trial glider flight at our club."

With a much crappier glide ratio I bet, so they should get the advanced certificate :D

classic!

actually the lousy glide ratios are easier to manage in the pattern. even at my gliders 25:1 its pretty tricky to make an approach and land without airbrakes or a slip. id want a long runway. i cant even imagine trying it with 40:1, thats damn flat.
