Friends -

I'm going to be doing an IPC with my CFII in the coming weeks. She believes there is an online course for some or all of the ground portion at www.faasafety.gov, but I can't seem to find it.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it! Thanks!

What does she believe is the requirement for the ground pirtion?
Honestly, I don't know. The Instrument Proficiency Check Guidance (which is an FAA publication) states that we should plan on 90 minutes of ground and two hours of flight as a rule of thumb. The Guidance says that the ground portion should cover preflight, taxi, take-off and departure, en route, arrival and approach, and missed approach.

You might ask your instructor. I’m not aware of a specific one for an IPC, but I have suggested these for people doing an IPC.
IFR Insights (AOPA. Wings Basic Knowledge 3 - ½ credit): https://www.aopa.org/training-and-s...ine-courses/ifr-insights-a-practical-approach

Doing GA Single Pilot IFR Better (EAA Membership Required. Basic Knowledge 2) https://www.eaa.org/videos/5633215436001#. https://www.faasafety.gov/WINGS/pub/accreditedactivities/accreditedActivityViewer.aspx?aaid= 48234

ABS - Single Pilot IFR, Fly Like A Pro. (ABS Air Safety Foundation. Master Knowledge Topic 1) https://www.faasafety.gov/gslac/ALC/course_content.aspx?pf=1&preview=true&cID=906

(I’ve also written my own).

Helpful. Thanks.

Unlike a Flight Review, for, neither the regulation nor the ACS specifically require a ground portion. The links @midlifeflyer provided are great, but as he mentioned, ask your instructor if they meet the specific goals she has for you.

It might also be good to review the knowledge and risk elements for the ACS tasks required for an IPC.

I do it for two reasons. First is my sense that IFR proficiency is even more about knowledge than flight. The second is that it an efficient way to cover those regulatory knowledge elements.

There are, btw, a few WINGS IPC activities, but not an online course or quiz per se. Completion of an IPC completes a WINGS phase. And AOPA’s “Focused Flight Review” includes an IFR profile, but neither is specifically an inline “course” and a CFI recommending it would know what it entails.

I looked and couldn't find any Wings activities. Can you point me in the right direction?

Sure. The basic "an IPC counts as a a WINGS phase" is this one. But it's really just an IPC without a specific online course requirement.
The FAA Focused Flight Review with the focus on instruments is this one. Again, it's really not an online course. It's some guidance for components what some would consider an IPC+.

Neither sounds like what your CFI is talking about. Sounds to me she's talking more about the others I listed - individual courses that talk about instrument flight and procedures that a CFI can choose to consider part of an IPC or flight review. But in that case, I think that your CFI should be doing what I do - I take every course I recommend myself.

The biggest problem with WINGS is how much the website sucks. You need to work hard to develop some tips and tricks to find stuff. Try these to searches separately. No, the keyword search does not understand "or" You'd think the first search would bring up all the stuff from the second, wouldn't you? And a warning - if you want to look at an entry, force it to open in a new window. The back key will bring you back to square 1 before the search. And "Free" on the search page doesn't necessarily mean "free". (I'm a big fan of the program but I eve nrant to the FAA about what crap the site is)

I created my own quiz (not course) recently because I have repeat clients and want to change things up periodically.

I found that link on my own, and have done searches as you suggest. You are correct...the WINGS website sucks, big time.

Probably she was referring to ALC-38 Instrument Proficiency Review Guide
