When our daughter (first kid) was just a few months old, barely crawling, she took a header off the bed and landed face-first on the tile floor. Smushed her little nose right in. We lived 18 miles by Interstate from the hospital at Ft. Sill. I had the flashers on and was doing 75 at the top of the ramp and 85 or 90 when I saw the highway patrol car go past in the other direction... this was in 1980, when the speed limit was still 55. I decided to let him catch up a little before pulling over. The old Mustang would do well over 120, and it took him a few miles. When he got close enough I pulled off the road and had my license hanging out the window when he got up to the car.
"Sir, is there some reason you're going so fast?" "Yeah, I think my daughter just broker her nose, we're on our way to the hospital." He took one look in the window and said, "Go!" So I did. He was nice enough to radio ahead so the gate guards knew we were coming and waved us through.
Then we found out that babies are mostly made of cartilage and poop, and very difficult to break. She had a pretty good bruise but no damage. Of course I'm sure if I did that now we'd have snipers in a police helo puncturing the car.
