You win. I had my first glider ride today. Well, actually logged 0.4 hours dual instruction in the UK. A couple chandels, a loop and I made the landing. Also flew most of the tow to 4000 AGL. Outside York, UK. We went on over the city and I had a ball. The instructor was a friend of mine who is a professor at the University of York. As I told him this evening at the banquet for the symposium I'm attending and he is chairing, when I down loaded the pictures one of the pictures taken of the two of us after landing leaves one question. Who has the bigger smile? The Cheshire Cat or me? :D

That is the most fun I've had in an airplane. Period. I've got to do that again.

Second picture is of G-CKAX, our ride for the 23 minutes. No lift today.

Third picture is of our tow plane while going to 4000 AGL.

Last picture is of York Minster. Somehow it looks much bigger from the ground. Well, is it the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe.

Again, did I have fun? You better believe it. OK, I've got my IR, but this is FUN!

Those pictures are great. I have a glider gift certificate and really need to go soon.

If I go alone I can log it as dual too and we can do acro.

(Alone vs. me plus one of my friends)

I have over 900 hours in gliders. I still find my self grinning so big after a while that my face hurts, especially the first couple flights of the season after not flying gliders for a for a few months (Winter). There is just something about rolling into a thermal and watching the ground fall away as you gain altitude using only air currents to do so.

A friend of mine went to Arizona to get some Acrobatic training in a glider. It was a great soaring day and they would do acro for a while and then would thermal inverted for a while to get back to an altitude where they could do more acro.

Nice ride!
A little hazy.. And a Pawnee tow in the UK!
Pawnees make the best tow planes.

So, where are you going to get your glider certificate?

Soaring is awesome. Added my glider rating several years ago. Also gave me an excuse to do some fun Super Cub flying when I took my turn as tow pilot. Great fun!
