Yeah. I got school and a couple of heavy classes this fall semester. Lots of reading and writing to do. If I get ahead I may come Friday and spend that night there and then head home on Saturday. But I did not want to commit to that until I know if it is possible.

Maybe, the potential is increasing, all I have to do is buy an airplane which I may do next week. What's the chances of finding accommodation for 2 at the last moment?

That's depends on your definition of accomodation. It ranges from tents with the plane (what most do) to dry shelter with no plumbing to a spot on the barn floor, to a resort lodge 10 minutes away by plane.

Depends, does the tent come with room service? Which brings up the question, what's the temps gonna be and what's the condition of the runway, slow or fast? If I buy a plane, it'll be marginal but doable into 6Y9. If I end up having to rent one it'll be easy regardless.

Awful long trip from the Indian Ocean... ;)

Figure highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s, though it could be10 degrees either side of that. Good condition 2600' turf. See some of EdFred's postings for more detailed info. Tents come with whatever you bring, so if you bring your cook and valet, yes, it comes with room service. :)

I'm at the airport in Jakarta right now, in 32 hrs I will be in Vegas, in50 hrs I'll be doing my MES in a BE-18, and by the end of the week I may be an aircraft owner again.

Are you going to give us a sneak preview of what you may be buying, or will it just show up at 6Y9?

Have a fun trip!

The runway this year is somewhere between the fairway and the first cut of rough on a municipal golf course. It will also be cut on Wednesday or Thursday right before the fly-in. As about as good as it gets for turf, and you can check out the videos on www.sidnaw.org/6y9/ for an idea of how it looks. The last one is from 2009 and was shot from a Warrior. Skip ahead to about the 4:15 mark for the turn to final, and landing. The first two were when it was 1800'.

The cones are every 200'.

Thanks, was a little more concerned with soft/hard-wet/dry, but that can change easy enough between now and then...

I'd say the chances are excellent if you bring your lodging with you! Other than that there is always room for more at 6Y9:D

It's sandier soil, and drains off really well. It's been wet this year, but I think only once has the runway had standing water on it. After a day - if that - it's gone. If there is going to be any wet spots it's going to be between the threshold and the end of the runway - 400' at either end. Dad will probably be up there Wednesday, and I'll get a PIREP on the runway out on Wednesday night before I leave on Thursday. I'll text message someone who can relay the info if it changes on Thurdays.

After Oshkosh this year, I need to ask. How voracious are the mosquitoes?
