Looking for advice on how to obtain a flight physical using my employee provided health insurance. I assume a "normal" annual physical is covered under my plan (united health).

Is there a way to have an annual physical that contains the flight testing aspects done in a way that is covered by insurance?

Bonus if anyone can recommend a doctor or clinic in Dallas.

Use Basic Med! I have never been able to get a Flight Physical through my health insurance.

Not sure, but in my experience, our health insurance did NOT cover a class 3 medical exam.

It's usually under $100 for a flight physical, I wouldn't think any typical health insurance company is going to go out of their way for a voluntary Class 3 physical.

Maybe if your AME is also your primary care physician...otherwise it’s not something insurance companies pay for...basic med would be a better shot if they will even do it

When I was going to an AME for a third class, my insurance wouldn’t pay. Now I use my annual physical with my PCP for Basic Med and it’s covered.

OP...is your health plan an HMO or PPO? usually with an HMO your primary care doc must issue a referral in order for you to see a specialist...aka AME. if your plan is a PPO you should be able to see any doc at anytime. a lot will depend on IF the AME accepts your insurance and how the AME codes the exam.

that being said paying out-of-pocket for Basic Med is likely the path of least resistence for you.

Related question: can I [legally] pay for my flight physical with funds from my HSA?

Basic Med get my annual physical out of the way and my BM too for free.

Basic Med with Kaiser... I get one exam each year.. $25.00 co-pay

I have known AMEs who will do this, but you are shorting yourself out of a comprehensive physical with your MD.
