I picked up a copy of the O-200 operator's manual, but it doesn't specify the idle rpm. What's it supposed to be?

What if the aircraft was not originally certificated with an O200?

Then the ICA for the STC or Major Alteration would provide that info...
Only when it is different than the OEM data. other wise look in the overhaul manual or type certificate either may not have it. but one will. Overhaul manual will have that info in the testing after overhaul section.

Thanks, Tom. The OH manual says 600 for the Stromberg and 500 for the Marvel. Either way, sounds like mine is idling high at 700ish.

Do you know why the difference ?

I do not, I am brand new to ownership.

The marvel has an accelerator pump, and can recover from a slower idle speed. The Stromberg does not and requires a much slower throttle advance. other wise the engine just quits for lack of fuel when the idle circuit is lost and the cruse jet does not have enough venturi action to draw fuel into the intake system.
some one set your idle speed to stop it from quitting when the throttle is advanced.

get a marvel on it before that Stromberg kills ya.

Thanks. It has a Marvel. Definitely idling too high then.

Now lopes at 525.
