My wife has a friend in Australia. She sent here a copy of the latest restrictions for her state of New South Wales. Approximately 350 Covid infections, 3 deaths per day for a population of 8 million.
Seems a little drastic.

We've started flying Young Eagles again in the Denver area....I'm worried about it. Most of the pilots are 50+, of course the kids are all 8-17. I get the weekly news from the county and state health depts but so far, nothing substantial.

Reasonable reasons to leave your house include:

  • Buying food to feed your family
  • Going to work to earn money to buy food to feed your family
  • Get an education to get a job to buy food to feed your family
  • Exercise to stay physically healthy
  • Entertainment to stay mentally healthy
  • Socialization to bind to other human beings (a critical facet of a society)
  • Meet someone new and socialize with them and maybe start a family
  • Etc

Germany now requires that anyone coming from America be vaccinated (with limited exemptions for German citizens)

At least it looks like they still think that hookups are okay (as long as it is only with one other person at a time)!

You do know that if everyone actually followed these restrictions from the first day, like was done in New Zealand last year, there would not have been a global outbreak. New Zealand actually did beat the odds and manage to keep out any community spread of COVID for many months, allowing their entire population to resume normal activities without masks, social distancing, or chance of infection. When necessary, a few individuals were forced to quarantine for the benefit of the entire remaining population and everyone got to enjoy the summer risk-free. But it relied on the entire population a country/world to listen to rules and regulation, be led by competent leaders, and follow cautious science. One break in the chain (or all of them) and it let the cat out of the bag.

Sigh. Hitler used the same argument. Not saying you're wrong.
