Today, I received a letter from the FAA reminding me to renew the registration on my -10 per the new rules. The process could not have been easier. Go on line, type in your N number and type in a "On Line Registration Code" supplied in the letter, pay $5.00 and you are done. Just print out the receipt for your records and that is it.

Did the FAA really come up with something this simple? Really? Seriously!?

You might want to benchmark the web link as it is a real PITA to find it other wise.

Good Job FAA!

Sorry but as I am now in the process of having to go through this previously unrequired bureaucratic BS, I do not have the letter. Without the letter I do not have the code. Without the code I cannot re-register online. So, yes, I believe it could have been easier.
Anyone know how to find the code without the letter?

Even the first time I (re-)registered, it was easy. So easy, I don't at all remember what was involved. I just remember it took maybe 10 minutes, and that included stuffing the envelope and walking to the mailbox and back.

In terms of government bureaucracy, it's about as painless as it gets, whether you do it online or offline.

You'll have to do it snail mail now.

The good news is they fixed the problem of early registration shorting your registration. So now you can re-register when you get the letter and not lose 3 months. :D.

Okay, where is the FAA, and what happened to the bureaucrates? :dunno:  The government shut down is working!

I just did mine with the letter. Super easy. FAA sent me the new registration and I'm ready for my ramp check again.

Why can't everything work like this.

I had to do mine by mail, since I also did a change of address at the same time. I believe they have an online form you can print out. It wasn't difficult.

But it's unclear why you need a "rereg"code nor why the online system can't continue to take registrations more than 60 days out (albeit with no guarantee that you'll have it by the due date). It's easier to rereg my car online. All I need is to grab my existing registration out of the car and go online. Eventually the Commonwealth will get like the county is with tax and I'll just show up online and find all the taxes I owe waiting for me to type in a CC or check routing number.

There's a million ways to skin a cat. Some are messier than others.

So... all this praise because an additional (and useless) bureaucratic burden not required until recently is less painful than expected. That's pretty sad.

Yup.
Plain talk is best understood.
