Is that the first loss of a Cirrus Jet?

That’s scary, can’t imagine (or maybe don’t want to) if that had happened during flight. Parachute would have been useless.

Would be ironic if it was some part of the parachute system, isn't it electrically fired?

I clicked on the link for you and the number of occupants is listed as 0.

Perhaps it occurred while the pilot was performing preflight walkaround? Or the avionics was left on inadvertently and something went haywire?

It looks like it was at a tie down spot when it ignited.

Doesn't look like a very flame resistant interior.

The 'chute system in the jet is interfaced with the autopilot. The autopilot slows the jet to deployment speed before the ballistic charge will fire to extract the canopy.

Picture doesn’t instill confidence in the jet.

At what speed does an open cockpit become uncomfortable? Or what’s the fastest (Vne) open cockpit plane out there?

Little early to jump to that conclusion. Would like to learn exactly what happened and the cause first. Could be an external source (e.g. something brought into and left in the airplane) for all we know at this point.

But I will admit, it does look like the temperature was enough to either ignite or melt the plastic fuselage. And that is a bit sobering.

I would think pulling the chute on any Cirrus would be the last thing one would want to do in the event of an inflight fire.

Zero knots if you're on fire.

Early reports over on COPA was that’s the pilot was in the process of starting the engine when he smelled smoke and safely exited the aircraft.

Yes, though a foreign registered plane had an A/C fire.
