[NA]Trolls[NA]

Lordy me. You cannot make this stuff up!

Why is that troll giving the Nazi salute?

Here's how it works here (I've been here a VERY long time, so I think I'm qualified to explain this):

Most newcomers are great, generally, they're student pilots, or very early in their pilothood that they are looking for information to absorb and they do it by listening to the more experienced people.

Some newcomers are very experienced pilots, and they come here with the understanding that despite their few thousand hours, they are still a newbie here, and they need to learn who is who and how things work.

Some newcomers are very experienced pilots, and they have an attitude that they are the most knowledgeable of anyone on this forum because of their massive number of hours. They usually come off abrasive and **** people off. They don't generally stick around very long because people don't respect their 5000 landings in a type-rated jet.

Other newcomers are new pilots but have a serious attitude problem. They feel the need to fit in, rather than letting it happen naturally, so they latch onto the need to explain how much better they do things than others. These people also don't generally last very long.

But I don't think we really have any "trolls" per se, that only exist to cause problems here. They're just different types of people that don't fit in because they are so abrasive. The real trolls we have are spammers. They are generally kicked out pretty quickly.

Nice, well thought out post. Obviously I fit into one of those latter groups. I have to admit I didn't spend much time 'getting to know' folks here slowly working my in and just I sorta just dived right in.

I am, however, not of the attitude that I know everything due to my hours. I do know some things though and stand by them. In the short time I've been here though I've learned many things and I'm not too proud to admit it.

I used to know everything, but I have forgotten most of it by now.

One thing for sure - I don't want to tick-off Nick - he could kick my ass over the phone!

As I was repeatedly told in high school, after kicking some kid's ass, I'm just a teddy bear with aggressive looks.

Hey, it helped land me the hottest wife in the world.

The more I become involved with POA and its members, the more I hate the newcomers who seem to me to be trolls. I am starting to care about pilots on POA, and get to know them, and when I see these trolls it just makes me soooooo mad. Argh.

I got that way with the old Usenet groups (rec.aviation.piloting, etc.) that were utterly destroyed by two very determined trolls.

We still hold the HOPS party at OSH each year (HOPS stands for "Homebuilt", "Owning", "Piloting", and "Student" -- the four dominant newsgroups), but the unmoderated groups themselves are dormant, overrun with Viagra ads.

Which is why, sad to say, moderators are needed in groups like P of A.
