Why would the cpa need sq footage of my home or business to complete my federal tax return? (there is no state income tax applicable to my situation in Texas)
I have never been asked this in the 23 years previous, and will have to ask him.

Do you have a home office?
 
Are you deducting property tax, and he wants to double check the amount?
 
Ask him why he needs the footage and how it applies...

I've done my own taxes in Texas for years, including for rental property and homestead and never have needed the area of the improved property to factor into anything I did for taxes.
 
I'm convinced the only industry that will continue to grow without decline is the tax industry.

Look at the DOJ's daily briefing page. They are shutting them down as fast as they can.
