Change can be a good thing, and I should be more accepting of it. But WTH?

I'm in Yosemite. Our family keeps a cabin about 10 miles from the gate. I come here at least once a year now, and started coming here about 45 years ago. It's a beautiful place and if you've never been there, you should go.

But THIS year they've changed the names of places in the park. Names that have been in place longer than I've been alive.

Ahwanee Hotel is now "The Majestic Yosemite Hotel"
Badger Pass Ski Area is now "Yosemite Ski and Snow Board Area"
Curry Village is now "Half Dome Village"
Wawona is now "Yosemite Valley Lodge"
There are two others...

So what's the dealio? Also, the sign modifications they've done look like crap.

Argh!

Want some cheese to go with your whine? ;) :D

I cannot get past losing B.C. and A.D. I can't read about ancient history anymore. I have no idea what they're talking about with this C.E. garbage.

Yes, I refuse to go along with that silliness. I don't see what the point is of pretending that our calendar isn't based on a religious event.

Could be worse. The govment could be tryouts me to force the metric system on us.

They could try but I wouldn't like, no no! Can't go for that!

"Year of our lord" is a bit unpleasant to say for those of us who aren't Christian. It has nothing to do with pretending. Just, most of the world is not Christian, yet needs a way to communicate dates.

Allow others to speak as they will. No one is forcing you to say it.

Yes. The US can feel secure that we are the only country in the world NOT on the metric system. What an achievement!!

I'm not a religious person, but it seems to me that there are many many things in history that are far more unpleasant than how our current calendar was constructed. If it were based on some other religion, that wouldn't bother me either.

What does bother me is that it sounds like a denial of history, which is a form of self deception.

I'm not disallowing anything; I'm just expressing an opinion. There's a difference between trying to persuade people of my point of view, and disallowing other points of view.

In my jobs, I became accustomed to using both. It didn't seem like that big a deal.

True, but our government didn't follow through and make it stick. We could have done it and been over it by now.

Seems like whenever I go to someplace that uses the metric system and I try to give measurements, they just say give it to us in feet, yards, miles, or whatever because it is easier for us.

What I don't like is all the surveillance being built into phones, tvs, computers, out airplanes, cars computers. Maybe a little less of that ok guys?

I eagerly await news of Myanmar's lunar landing

Nauga,
and the space between the lines

Europe has all these languages and US speaks English almost all, so they balance out. But still.

One generation has to pay the price (and actually another 1 or 2 there is price of the legacy). Then were good to go.

US having it is costing wealth to the rest of the world because THEY have to know and stock etc English measured goods. Talk in feet AND meters.

Rain here. Go fly in the rain.

Yeah. My metric is Craftsman and my English is Snap On. Have a 3rd set of hybrid old stuff. I cant complain. Now if I could just get the parts.

American airplane parts are English.
Has Boeing converted?
Are Socata parts metric?

Meh - metric vs standard isn't a big deal at all, it's just a number. What IS a big deal is that I can't think in metric. I can picture what 20 lb of pork butt looks like, but if I have to picture 9kg of pork butt I get the same look on my face that I do when I watch Jeopardy.

The only way I can picture miles vs km is that I know that 10k = 6.2 miles.

The thing that does get me is that in a lot of places they price things opposite the way we do. We price things in $/lb. In other places they price meat as kg/Euro or something like that. Even vehicle fuel economy is done that way. In the US we do miles/gal and in other places it's liters/100 km.

And then there's the awful Windows 10 user interface! :mad3:
