[NA]Hearing Aids

I’ve never gone the Costco route but make sure you can keep seeing the same technician and go back as needed to adjust. I really encourage people not to see these as a fire and forget solution. That will likely end in disappointment and you’ll give up on quality of life.

On the rechargeable item can see both sides for sure and I’ve done both. I would really recommend a backup if you can afford it in both cases if you’re dependent on these for work or flying. I’ve been in some very tight spots when they suddenly decide to give up!

You can just turn up your headset in flying situations. Mine recharge pretty damn fast when you put them in the case (which like an airpod case has its own battery)

To my understanding, this advice hinges on the misconception that hearing aids primarily make things louder.

In my experience, the benefit comes from enhancing the frequencies you’re deficient in. They don’t make things louder, they make things more “crisp” or “bright”, compensating for the particular frequencies you’re deficient in, which helps a lot when trying to understand speech. I find it especially noticeable when I take out my AirPods - and previously my Resound hearing aids - suddenly everything seems noticeably “muddy” or “dull”. Turning up the volume doesn’t make the sounds any less “muddy” or “dull” - just louder, which doesn’t help at all.

Studies show a link between untreated hearing loss and dementia. And apparently the brain gradually loses the ability to process sounds in one’s missing frequencies. In other words, waiting too long to get help can irreversibly inhibit one’s ability to process those missing frequencies, even after hearing aids boost them.

I'm under no such misconception. But amplification is a major part of it. It's not linear. I'm not talking about replacing hearing aids all the time with headphones... as you properly state, your body does adapt to the hearing aids (and some have more advanced signal processing than just reflecting your audiogram curve).

However, as far as hearing radio transmissions (and intercom conversations), turning up the volume in your noise reducing headsets does indeed suffice in most cases. I frequently have to disable or remove my hearing aids under some headphones as the cups tend to push on the buttons on the BTE part and I got tired of listening to the program change beeps, etc...

Costco will take your doctor's audiogram. So will companies like TruHearing and YesHearing (I highly recommend the latter).
Nope. At least not here. I talked to two locations yesterday, one in person and the other by phone, with an hours-old audiogram done by an audiologist and exam by an ENT in my hand. They want to do their own. "Protocol".

As of this timestamp - Costco has the AirPod Pro 3 on sale for $199! Is the $50 off the retail price. Target has them for $179!. I wonder if this is in anticipation of an imminent Pro 4 version, but the Pro 3 is about a year old, so it really doesn't make much sense.

I can’t remember the Cyber Monday price, hut that seems about right. They probably won’t get any cheaper until the next model gets released.
