[NA] Glass repair. Bogus?

This sort of thing has been around forever. I’ve heard people say that if you get the prep just perfect it will work but every real world version I’ve ever seen looks slightly discolored and you can still see the crack.

You can still see the crack in the link's "after" photo.
The point of this sort of windshield repair, whether DIY or commercial is to prevent the crack from spreading, prevent being pulled over for equipment damage, and strengthen the weakened windshield.

Some states it's also the difference between the old windshield passing a vehicle inspection & needing to get a new windshield.

"No need to replace new glass"
Well, I guess that is true...

Hi mercury strength repair resin? :dunno:

You don’t know about that exact kit, but I see several on Amazon for $14-16. It just happens that I have a good sized crack on the pad side of my pickup… I may try one of those kits out and see what the results are. Nothing to lose but sixteen bucks, I’ll take the risk.

You could also go to Walmart or your preferred torture center and pick up a small bottle of clear nail polish. It should be about $5. Wash the window, dry it, and then paint the crack and a little beyond the edges. It works great, though you will have to repaint it once a month or so if you live in a climate where you scrape your windshield every day. It won't be invisible, but it worked great for my Escort after some guy opened the back doors of his work truck into my windshield while I was at work.
