[NA] female kicker knocks return man out of bounds [NA]

From where I'm sitting it looks like I'm the only one who thinks bullying is bad and there are at least five people who think it's a-ok. So, excuse me if I don't share your opinion of society. Seems to me that our society is pathetic because it is willing to accept child suicides in order to avoid some scary boogie man of being politically correct and telling bullies to stop being dicks. But, whatever, guess those kids should have just gotten thicker skins. Bunch of *******.
Oh, name calling is ok... Hypocrite.
Fact is; it's a harsh world, better toughen up.

this was on the local NBC affiliate's website this morning. This girl can hit!

Last season, Kelly Macnamara tried out for the North Penn High School football team as a kicker. She made it and became the first female to do so in that school's history.

Since then Macnamara has ingrained herself as an important part of the team. Over the weekend, we saw why. On a kick return during North Penn's game over the weekend, Macnamara popped out of nowhere to stop the opposing player's touchdown-bound run with a massive hit. Don't take our word for it, click Kelly's Twitter link to see her video.

Was there anything unusual about this? I had to watch the video a few times before I caught on. Ohhh, they're surprised that she stopped the guy. She's a football player, after all...

So, to paraphrase: Bullying is ok, even though probably everyone has been a victim of it. Who cares if half of suicides by young people are because of it, we definitely shouldn't presume to tell bullies to knock that **** off. We should instead shrug our collective shoulders and accept that some kids will die and tons more will be miserable. Doesn't matter, small price to pay to not have to tell people to stop bullying.

No, that is not what I said, and is your emotional and non-objective response to doing a bad job of your research and being caught attempting silly statistical games.

Again, you make claims that "half of all suicides" are caused by it. Was that via asking the dead kids their motivations?

Ooh and "tons more will be miserable". Aww. Let me send them to some places where real misery happens and people literally starve to death and maybe they'll figure it out that they're pretty damn well off.

Please also recall here that your assertion the above is based off of originally was that mocking someone for a bad play in a sportball game is "bullying". It's rather difficult to care much if you don't define exactly what you mean by the word, since my high school bully actually threw me into objects that were harder than I was.

Care to define "bullying" a little better there? I've been pretty consistent with the opinion that any kid not taught that a ball game is going to have good plays and bad plays and that even the best player in the world gets beat regularly, is going to have some serious problems thanks to whoever neglected to teach them that... is going to be screwed up.

But you don't see many studies about how their parents screwed them up royally in this regard.

I can't give anything but anecdotal evidence for it, but I can say I've seen plenty of parents hide behind the bully label who gave their kids the wrong idea of how the world works. And guess who's being interviewed after they kill themselves for lack of hope and over-valuing of something as weak as a critical comment about how they played a game?

Here's a real hard truth we all know but won't be told. More parents kill their own kids with bad ideas than anything. "Little Johnny is going to grow up to be a football star!" Yeah, mom and dad, he's got a worse chance of that than just about anything y'all could have come up with. Super job.

Anyway... bullying isn't the root cause for kids who grow up thinking they need to be something they won't ever be. That only works for the parents who teach the kids they'll get their butts kicked and have to get up and do it again better.

Helps if the parent is willing to give up a lot for the dream if the raw talent is there. Von Miller's mom dragged a generator and a nebulizer to every practice throughout his childhood. He has asthma. The NFL kindly provides him one on the sidelines, these days. Nobody claims that someone taunting, "Von Miller would kick your butt, you aren't as good a pass rusher as he is!" is bullying.

He just worked harder at it than everyone else. And... was a kid with bad eyesight, big glasses, and asthma.

I wonder why the same argument for women in combat is not being made for women in professional sports?
Women have their own professional league. There aren't enough "girls" interested in high school to warrant having separate teams so the boys are forced to allow girls to compete with them.

Just like with the Dylan thread, some here can take any good-hearted thread and turn it into a pizzing contest and/or platform for hate, animus and "cheat pounding, you can't be offended unless you choose to be" psycho-babble B.S.

It gets so old...the same old broken records...

Pretty sure the real psycho-babble is claiming that normal human tribal and competitive behavior, that's been going on for thousands of years, and is baked in by the very deaths of those who can't adapt, and the only reason our weak and quite edible species even survives on a tough planet, is abnormal.

That or Darwin had it all wrong.

Your brain is bigger than your muscles for a reason. If you can't use it to overcome someone taunting you about a sport which has nothing to do with your survival and is just something to do in a society that has meat available in styrofoam
wrappers and drives cars and flies airplanes, you're in for a really difficult life, I guess.

Most of us are pretty happy with our lot in life, but those who haven't seen any real suffering, have no frame of reference for how good they have it.

You play sporting events on a manicured lawn with twenty pounds of safety gear on and you're fed, housed, and clothed every day, ride there in air conditioned comfort in a car, and it's all an adjunct extracurricular activity to an essentially free education ... and you're whining about someone taunting you about your performance in said silly game designed to have winners and losers both as a team and as individuals? Give me a break.

Change your line to "you can't be offended if you have any real clue about how good you really have it compared to millions on the planet" and you'll have captured the actual sentiment.

We all know people who's lives were started off young with rules far worse than any football game.

Here kid, the politicians said you get to have this gun and get to walk through that jungle and shoot any other people you meet, or you'll be shot by them and be dead. All because they drew a line on a map while enjoying coffee and donuts back home. Guess you should've gotten better grades in school -- you made yourself expendable to them.

The "trials and tribulations" of the poor dears being told they suck at football, really doesn't rate as all that big in comparison.

It's not "animas" to point out that they don't have a proper sense of perspective on what real problems are. Send the kid down to the homeless shelter as a volunteer to feed some folks and they'll probably figure out that their little football problem isn't all that big a deal in the overall picture of life.

Send mom and dad down, too, since they taught the kid that he or she has lots to complain about in suburbia. Now for them, they probably deserve some "animas". But I hope the new BMW doesn't get scratched down at the shelter.
