I think I’ve seen all that YT has to offer.
Doesn’t have to be aviation.

Machining or welding is cool.
Industrial accidents are a good study.
Automotive experimentation.
Almost anything science-y
I wouldn’t know how to search for TED talks of that genre.

Check out Mentour Pilot on YouTube. Good accident analysis, hosted by a 737 pilot. Professional production quality.

Smarter every day on YouTube is pretty good. Enjoyed the series on nuclear submarines and working through the series on the moon landing.

Thanks, love Petter’s vids, have seen most of them.
Any non-YT vids to consider?

Love Destin (and Grady of PE); they’re both great.
Looking to branch out.

Slow mo guys on YT. Won’t learn anything but it’s cool to watch. They have ultra high speed cameras and film things like glass being shattered by a bullet

Lots of really good Origami on Youtube, learned to make sourdough bread there too. Been watching Itchy Boots ride her dirt bike around the world. You need a really limited outlook to not find something interesting on Youtube.

how to pronounce words.......

That kind of thing came in really handy when we started hiring people in Belfast. Go ahead, try and figure out how to pronounce “Naimh” or “Aoife” without either being Irish, or cheating a little.

Easy…Aoife- ee fuh. Did cheat a little since my sister suggested listening to Aoife O’Donovan last year. Made my Spotify playlist for certain. Now for Naimh…. I concede without a www search option.

For general education on a whole bunch of things, check out thegreatcourses.com. They’re not just single 20-minute videos, though: they’re more like well-structured courses that feel like college-level “survey” courses (like “art for math majors” or “physics for marketing majors”). Typically 24-48 half-hour sessions. Even most of the video ones are good just as audio, especially the second time through (I’ll re-listen while driving or doing yard work).

You do need to “buy” them (and they go on sale for $30-40 on occasion) but if your public library has access to the Kanopy app, many of the courses are there, too - for free.

Very good ones include the weather one (and then after that one, watch the extreme weather one), the Structures one, the Everyday Engineering one, Capitalism vs Socialism, America in the Guilded Age, the Hubble one, and the National Parks one (done w Nat Geo). Much deeper dives but absolutely fascinating ones include the Origin and Evolution of Earth and the cosmology one. There are also excellent ones on religion but one needs to have an open mind for some of the best of those (nonetheless they’re very informative).

First step would be to try to get access to Kanopy. Once that’s done, look for courses on a computer instead of an iPhone: their search engine isn’t very good for phones. Then tag ones for your “favorites”, then you can see them easier on your phone.

I binge watch true crime videos.

And stuff like this...

I find the YouTube algorithm recommendation starts to get real tight after a while and I start seeing the same things over and over after a while. Sometimes I just need to trace back to my subscribed channels or do a new search for topics of interest.

Logging out helped me

So are you asking about platforms like Nebula / Curiosity stream? I’ve never tried them but they seemed to be heavily advertised by some content producers.

Will check ‘em out - never heard of them, thanks Brad
