Any of you hate AT&T? I don't use hate often, but AT&T earns it at every turn.

So, I'm stuck with AT&T at my house because no one else is wired up for my community. They are over priced and the service SUCKS. Like Tommy Tomasito sucks... BIG TIME. But, they've got the damn copper so what do you do?

Now, for my HANGAR! When I'm doing little projects on my RV I often need video help (not from Studio6PC). Also, my girlfriend runs her businesses from the hangar so I decided to get phone/internet to make it easier for both of us.

Yesterday was the install. Dude arrived promptly 2.5 hrs after the END of the installation window. Diddled around a while and came back and said, I'll need a helper ticket and that isn't likely to be dispatched today.

I'm like, okay, put me on for 9am tomorrow. (Wasn't happy but what could I do)

Today I'm out there and around 9:30a I call for confirmation of the techs arrival.

Suddenlink is about as bad. In my new apartment I went to get internet and TV at their local brick and mortar store. The lady said that she could have a tech for install in about a week and a half.....o_O

I asked why and her reply was that my apartment was new and needed a tech to install the connectors.

I asked her for the TV box and said to have someone drop by sometime to untrap the cable in their outside box. A trip to Home Depot and about 10 minutes worth of work I had internet two weeks earlier.......

Next day a young tech knocked on my door and said he had untrapped my cable on his way home. He had overheard my conversation with the sales lady. I handed the dude a beer and thanked him. :D

I've had some minor issues with AT&T over the years but for pure suck, you can't beat Comcast.

I think I've become numb to their horrible service. My parents house is the last house on the county's electrical grid which also means Comcast's grid as well. They have to replace the entire outside cable about every two years, which takes about a month. This is because the signal is so weak at the pole that any issue with the cable line causes loss of service.

The last replacement a few weeks ago didn't help and they've waited almost a month to get a tech back out. With it being winter I doubt it will get fixed till spring....

They're the phone company. They don't care. They don't have to.

You should have other options, even if AT&T owns the last mile.

I told ATT to kiss mine about fifteen years ago and have only my cell phone. Still stuck with Comcast though; the only game in town.

Comcast has a massive IT plant here in Denver. They're always hiring. They're the "job of last resort before I have to leave town" for every IT person who's been here more than six months. They survive on the influx of transplants.

New IT people to Denver always do a stint at Comcast thinking "oh, big company... good job... stable..." and they all leave within a year saying "never again" with stories of literal IT hell.

Some of the comments on the various job sites are plenty entertaining enough to grab some popcorn and read for a half hour, though.

The amazing part: Their business fiber program, run separately from most of their other businesses totally sucks for customer service, but amazingly somehow the thing really runs well and has almost zero downtime. Before I got to our company someone had decided to move to them and I took over after that decision and figured I'd either have to fire them or they'd be the cause of my firing within the first year.

Instead they've been rock solid and 1/3 the closest competitor's cost for metro Ethernet and insanely fast internet access. We run all of the telecom for the call center through them, too. Have a backup circuit from a CenturyLink reseller that has never once had any significant traffic on it in three years.

So, sometimes the blind squirrel gets a nut.

Hey @denverpilot - you ever use this router? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002RYYZZS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I got one for the hangar because I hate using the supplied Wi-Fi and I choose to run my own secured network behind theirs. First time with this box but it looks okie dokie.

Honestly my home internet connection sucks so bad, I use an ancient router and it can easily keep up. In the past I've built various stuff with DD-WRT and firewalls and yadda, but on a whopping 10M pipe it just doesn't matter what I use anymore. Haha.

I have also heard people bash Time Warner as bad as I bash Comcast but right now I have TW and it is the best internet that I have ever had and absolutely no issues to complain about. I don't use their cable TV, just the internet.

I just got a Gigabit router and Xfinity should be here on the 9th to fix the ripped up wires the Septic guys broke from doing a leach line repair. We will see if they show "on time". The guy we bought from had an IT business running from his house, so I assume it will be solid.

I had Time Warner in college at a tech school. They were multiple times worse than either AT&T or Comcast. They actually told us (a slew of engineering majors, IT majors, and computer science majors) at one point that our computers "didn't have wireless cards in them". Another time they told us that our apartment was "at the end of the line and it doesn't reach well here". Another time they told us that they had issues every year when the college kids return (an influx of 5000-7000 students). Our internet service probably didn't work for <20% of the time we had them. Sometimes it was out for hours. Other times it was out for days. For no reason, other than (apparently according to customer support) our computer's spontaneously got rid of their wireless cards.

After college I had Comcast. They were pretty bad, but nothing compared with Time Warner. Our internet felt slower than dial-up, but it actually worked. After a move we had a choice between AT&T and Comcast. We went with AT&T. They showed up late and it took them 4 hours to turn on service when we moved here. Their service was the best of the bunch. AT&T sold to Frontier in our local area.

They made the transition a nightmare. At one point just before the transition (for about a month) our DVR stopped working. We called to complain that the TV is useless to use without DVR since we don't watch anything live. AT&T told us that DVR was a "free service" and they couldn't give us a refund. My wife asked the service person if a color image was a "free service" as well. The guy had no response. He knew the crap he was saying was just that, crap. I have a conspiracy theory that Comcast paid AT&T to make the transition as miserable as possible so that customers would switch from Frontier to Comcast. Afterall, AT&T had nothing to lose.

Now we have Frontier. For a while they were only charging us random months and they would double up on the charge to make up for months when they didn't charge us. The internet is still slow and cuts out frequently for a few minutes. Our DVR works intermittently. For some reason it doesn't like recording certain shows. The channel guide goes blank for weeks at a time.

And all this for >$150/month.

Last year I tried to switch the house to Charter. They came out and found me to be over a mile from their nearest copper. They said they call me when service becomes available in my area.

*Crickets*

Does anyone have experience with Sonic (fiber)? They are advertising $40/month for 1000 mbps + home phone.

Call 800 422 0499 and they will help you take care of any further issues. I used to be a contractor for SWBell until they became AT&T. I give it out when I see someone having problems.

Soooooo....you're "girlfriend" needs Internet to "work" from the hangar? This sounds promising!:needpics:

Not that kind of work, my friend. But if you'd like pictures of pallet racks full of industrial electronics, motors, CNC controllers and the like I'll be happy to supply some :)
