NA Any contractors in the house?

Yeah I was thinking that'd be a little too tacky, especially the front entrance. I know my spouse would not go along with that. But hey, Zeldman's in Alaska, probably ok there. No offense Zeld.

None taken. But I don't do winters in Alaska anymore.

Not a contractor, but I wonder if they would be able to cut out a section around it, pour a patch, and then do a textured pattern/stain on the entire porch surface. It might look really good, would disguise any hint of the patch, and be an "upgrade" that you might get at no cost.

I'd consider cutting it clean or making them replace the whole thing. Patch will look like heck.

Does giving up a few inches impact anything right or left of your picture?

It doesn't and I considered having it cut off but there will be brick plinth's with cedar beams on each side so Im not sure if that would cut into that space.

But the contractor is going to put tile or brick down, whatever we choose on his dime, so he is standing by it.

Here are the pics...looking at it I may suggest cutting off 3" all the way across to get rid of it. patching I beleive will look ugly...to tile the whole thing would be unfair to ask that I beleive...we will see but this is what we are dealing with.

Also keep in mind a side walk will be going up to it as well.
Have him patch it and tile the whole deck. Offer to pay for the cost of the materials but he picks up the labor. It will look great and you will bet getting a good deal on it.

Sounds like a plan..!!!

If it's Iike my new house there's a footer across there. There would be no cutting mine. My 2 year old home has developed a crack right about the same spot, contemplating what to do with it...

Yep there is a footer and that would have worried me as well...cut it from the top and chip it out from the side...I could see more problems happening. we got it taken care of so all is good.

Now trying to decide what we want to put down. dont want anything slick but I want to be able to rock a rocking chair on it as well.

Maybe go look at some other homes with tile, brick, whatever, to give you an idea.

What about using slate/flagstone and grouting the edges flush? You should be able to find some stone that is has a flat-enough surface to use for rocking chairs/etc. which still having a bit of texture/non-ceramic finish to keep from being slick when wet.

He's being awful generous. I'd take a concrete saw, cut a notch around the edge and install a nice tile, brick or stone coping that would be level with the existing surface. This guy's doing you a solid.
Might ask him to parge the edge for a clean finish to the concrete.

He really is and is going above and beyond in my eyes. I am going to ask him what he thinks about notching the edge out and bricking the edge. Only problem there is a footing, may not be a problem as I haven't asked but just to me seems like it would be. it sucks it happened but he is standing by it which is great!

I would use a veneer brick, only need a notch about 1" deep or so. You use the saw and cut a series of striations along the edge, then take a brick chisel and knock them out, creating a shelf for the mortar bed. Since that concrete is still pretty green, should be fairly easy. Makes a nice finished look for the concrete field.
