[NA]Animals to get civil rights[NA]

Note that California's Proposition 2 does NOT prohibit the eating of animals.

Nah. Just adds 50%+ onto the cost of production of one of the most cost effective protein sources available. That is assuming that the production capacity exists to produce the current egg consumption of California under the new guidelines. Currently there is a shortage of about 20,000,000 birds of production necessary to meet the current consumption levels. That represents a $1.5 - $2 BILLION investment that is required within the next 34 months. Oh, and all of this construction will have to be permitted which is no easy task. And just for more fun, if Prop 2 ever gets repealed the market doesn't exist for all those free range eggs which means that $2B just got smoked.

As the law stands right now there will be a SEVERE egg shortage in California on 1/1/2015. Many are estimating that you will be looking at $6 - $10/dozen eggs until/if new facilities can be permitted/constructed/stocked/certified.

Yeah - the law doesn't prohibit consumption but just makes it an economic certainty that consumption will be reduced. These rules are an order of magnitude more restrictive than even the strict European standards to say nothing of the whole US constitution and interstate commerce problem.

Thanks for the info.

X2. Thanks James. It is good to have an insider in your industry to give the facts. Plus you were damn good in "East of Eden", and "Rebel without a Cause".

Keep the Porsche in the garage. OK?
