[NA]Animals to get civil rights[NA]

It is uninteresting to get into the mind from those pathetic hypothetical attention whores.

Let'em win. Let's see what happens when the court order is to open all the cages at the city zoo. PETA of course should be on location to insure the animals are legally given their freedom of choice on whether to leave or not.

We use to keep prisoner cows that were destined for the hamburger factory. PETA will have a rough time getting their steak dinners without offensive horrible slave owners like us.

I say we keep the water skiing squirrels and dog riding monkeys!!

If we let them free they'll just take up smoking and watching "Dr Phil".

I had a long talk with my friend Corey this morning about the lawsuit. Corey, by the way, is an American born Timneh parrot. His comments consisted of some derisive laughter and whistling.... [So that there is no mistake: People who have parrots in their house are "owned " by these animals]

I told y'all what happened when I tried to let my cats go free. I only became MORE enslaved, and had to buy them whatever treat and cat toys they wanted.

I keep eyeing the gun safe.

Laws do presently give animals rights. They have the right to not be subject to cruelty (hence animal laws, etc.). The problem is that they are not enforced.

It would not be in the best interest of animals that have been domesticated to simply let them free. If released into the wild, they'd end up dying.

We have an African Grey. She's really not a very good pet, and should never have been domesticated. However, she wouldn't last more than a few days in the wild, if that. It's up to us humans to provide for her a reasonable existence. So we do, even though sometimes I get bitten.

Hmmm....I would quibble with you. Our laws in this area focus on the ideas that certain human behaviors are undesirable, and that a property right of one of your fellow human beings might be affected, when you do certain prohibited things to animals (or fail to do something you should do.) in other words it is all about your fellow homo sapiens.

What is a "civil right"?
Does a rock have rights?
How about a virus?
Or a single cell?
A plant?
An insect?
A worm?
A mouse?
A dog?
A dolphin?
A whale?
A person?
A group of people?
An ecosystem?
The universe?

So I get a letter from my cats's attorney in the mail. Class Action suit, from the TWO of them!

These are their demands or they will WALK!

Unlimited food of their choice
Two brushings per day
Fireside beds with hot and cold catnip
18 litter boxes cleaned hourly
Cat toys from only cat "designer specialty stores"
Catnip flavored water
Live birds, and mice on demand!
Choice of female Kitties to be named later (they're both neutered)
Real furniture as scratching posts
Caviar
Tuna (Albacore)

This isn't about two whales. It is about the billion animals that are used for food.

So, James, what are you saying? Is this about the ability to eat meat? You mean the rights of animals will be extended to animals we consume so it is outlawed to eat meat?

Just another publicity stunt. Except it has the undesired effect of showing how much money they have to waste, how stupid they are, how they don't mind spending the public's money and using valuable court resources. The judge should have penalized them for presenting a bogus case.

Damn! My cats are gonna be ****ED! Now it is going to be hell living with them.

Anyone know of a good Chinese Restaurant Adoption Center?

:)

I'm not familiar with laws regarding animals in your area. For the most part from what I see, the laws focus on stating that you must provide your pets with adequate food, water, shelter, care, and clean conditions. Failure to do these items (and specifically if you choose to participate in animal cruelty) results in seizure of the animals and potentially up to and including jail time, depending on how the District Attorney chooses to prosecute. So to me, this indicates that the animals have certain rights.

PETA is going after something different, though.

So wait we don't have any civil rights left but the animals get them? Well I guess wr did temporarily defeat SOPA.. They can touch or balls at the airport but they will never take our Internet!

People Eating Tasty Animals PETA... I have the t-shirt. Really.

The other day when my wife and I came downstairs, there were a bunch of deer in the back yard. I said to her, "Look! Dinner!"

I used to have a copy of the Night Before Christmas that went something like this:

'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house,
there wasn't a bite to eat, not even a mouse...

...and what to my wondering eyes did appear?
But a miniature sleigh and eight juicy reindeer!
...

The fewer animals people own or have been around the more likely they are to support PETA.

Notice how PETA is mostly Suburban, White, Upper-Middle Class?

Interesting story in this morning's newspaper - about abandoned, dumped, horses. People caught in the "Great Recession" are letting their horses loose, hoping they'll join up with herds of wild horses that are descendants of horses set loose in the "Great Depression". Several of the people involved in trying to rescue the domesticated horses before they die are blaming the loss of horse-slaughterhouses as a contributing factor.

If the animals really didn't want to get eaten, they wouldn't have been made out of food.

After the nutjobs eliminate meat, they'll have us all eating plants...then it will be PETP to protect the plants because plants are alive and have their rights too. About then, the PETA/PETP group will find themselves put back in the food chain.

This has been going on for a while.

When we tried to sell our horses the word "out there' was don't-- they'll end up abandoned.

Maybe they (PETA) should check their dental records. See those pointy teeth, yeah the four eye teeth/canines (Cuspids). They are designed for tearing MEAT. We are omnivores, like bears.

Should animals have constitutional protections?

Most think it will get tossed pretty handily but it is interesting to get into the mind of PETA and see how far they will take things.
My cat already seems to own my house and everything in it. What more does he need? I'm sure that if he had his way with everything he'd get more to eat and we wouldn't be allowed to close any doors unless we were ready to open them whenever he wanted to come through. Oh, and we'd probably no longer be allowed to evict him from a chair, even if just got up for a second or two.

If we let our cat free it would sit on a streetcorner with a cardboard sign that says "Will scratch furniture for food".

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Yeah, mine would probably be a competitor in that enterprise.

He wants respect.

Oh, and reparations. One thousand pounds of salmon ought to be a nice start.

The Dog special intersest group, "The Canine's Liberation Front" seems to be much more reasonable. They've offered to "take care of" the cat issues for free Eukenuba, and a Nylabone.

Ted, I'll tell ya that animal cruelty laws are pretty strictly enfocred in the Philly area whether its dog or cock fighting, cat or dog hoarding they really crack down on them. There was even a case of a stable owner getting nailed in the city for neglect of the horses.

One thing I always found troublesome though is that the animal cruelty prosections that I recall in my county would always have crowds of people carrying signs denouncing the alleged abuser / neglecter but no one ever showed up and did the same for people who were murdred.

Lol sounds the Philly I heard about.

In the North they're better enforced. Go down to the South, however, and you'll see things you can't believe. Even dog fighting rings and bait dogs aren't readily enforced in many areas.

Probably because those who feel strongly about animal cruelty typically feel extremely strongly about it. As animals are unable to defend themselves or speak for themselves, they tend to get more fervent supporters than humans, who do have means of fighting back, whether or not they choose to do so.

I'm all for the ethical treatment of animals. But Consitutional rights?

I think we have enough laws. There was some guy who said 'every person commits a felony at least once per day without knowing it'. I think he's right.
