I've discovered a new level of ****ole. A jacked up diesel truck passed me on the interstate the other night. When he did he not only blew exhaust on me, but blinded me with a rear mounted light bar. The idiot, I guess, didn't like the fact I was driving the speed limit in the POURING RAIN!!

What the freak man????

Two lane road?

What lane were you in?

Two lane in the slow with the nearest traffic a mile away in both directions.

The light bar was mounted between the bumper and the tailgate. It looked specifically placed to screw with people.

Some people are just ass-hats, but I've had worse things and more dangerous things done on two-lanes than just getting "smoked" and "flashed", for sure. Some of the passes people will try are amazing.

I drive the speed limit. Which ****es off country-bumpkins, apparently.

I had a line of five cars behind me in the neighborhood last night because the speed limit in there is 25. I even had the cruise control set... 2 miles of dirt road... :)

That happens a lot when I'm on the back roads with my buddy in his jeep. He'll just slow down to a stop and sit there in the middle of the wilderness.

I guess I'm the anarchist. If people ride my a ss, I either slow so they can pass, or pull over and let them by.
No good has come from being the 'fastidious law abider' or from 'showing someone else how to drive', imo.
They get what they want, I get relief from their antics. Life is too short.

I normally also do that whenever I have a guy behind me. I was just amazed at the level of ******* this guy had with the light bar.

The Volt you can pop into reverse (and if you're foot is off the "gas" it really does little other than light up the back up light).

As for highway *******s...as a dear departed friend would say "I've been treated worse by better men than he."

I should point out I also don't block people. The line of cars in the 'hood is because people realize there really are kids and dogs and horses and goats and lord only knows what else on our dirt roads and crossing them at the horse trails, and they decide they can relax and go 25 just fine.

Once in a while someone passes. Doesn't bother me. It's a dirt road, have at it. If you do manage to go in the ditch I'll laugh. If it's snowing I might stop and dig out the tow strap and make fun of you while I drag your butt out of the ditch. ;)

Those LED light bars seem to pop up on lots of pickups lately. I tend to see them on the bumper pointed forward and the azzhats use them to light up the interior of your car if you don't speed enough to their liking.

This is Arkansas.... Your lucky he didn't put you in a ditch then stop and finish you off.

All you had to say was "jacked up diesel," Andrew. From that point on, we all understand.

Did he have a "you can't be strokin' or cummin if you ain't hard as a rock" sticker in the back window and bull balls a hangin' from the hitch?

And just what difference would that make anyway?

In MI it's the law that you stay right except to pass. I will brights someone who is a left lane camper. Andrew did say he was on the interstate.

that would be illegal in WA

Slow-moving vehicle to pull off roadway.
On a two-lane highway where passing is unsafe because of traffic in the opposite direction or other conditions, a slow moving vehicle, behind which five or more vehicles are formed in a line, shall turn off the roadway wherever sufficient area for a safe turn-out exists, in order to permit the vehicles following to proceed. As used in this section a slow moving vehicle is one which is proceeding at a rate of speed less than the normal flow of traffic at the particular time and place.
[1973 c 88 § 1.]

seems like common courtesy, but on roads that seems rare. I don't get it, why slow people down? I move over, give them the benefit of the doubt, either they have somewhere they need to be quickly, or would just prefer to drive a little faster. neither are reasons to hold them up.

I will too, if they're parked next to someone in the right lane. But, if there's no one else rebound, I'll simply pass on the right. Which I found out is illegal to do in Ohio...got a ticket outside of Columbus for doing just that.

But, there's a big difference between flashing one's brights at someone and doing what this redneck asshat did. That's the point that I was trying to convey with my question. No matter what Andrew was doing, there's no excuse for what Mr. Redneck did.

Oh, and hanging out in the left lane is illegal here in MO also.

That I agree. No need for rear facing light bars to be used unless some is behind you with their brights on. I had someone one night try and 'show me for going slow'. They were in a car, and put their brights on, and got so close to my rear end, that my tailgate blocked all of the light entering the truck. I guess they showed me.

I am surprised the states or nhtsa has not pushed for rules to rein in some of the wild lighting, even on headlamps, which I am seeing. I saw an 18wheeler that was lit up like a Christmas tree last week - it was blinding and very distracting. It must have been drawing 500amps. Almost continuous lights in rows all around the top, bottom, middle. Could have read a book as I passed, my cabin was so bright. Also, I see no reason for headlamps to be 10,000K and 3million candlepower. Starting to think about wearing shades at night.

what is this 'speed limit' you speak of?

but yeah, the dude just sounds like a goober.

@denverpilot said he was going the speed limit which is 25 in his subdivision. I doubt if that counts as a "slow moving vehicle" even in WA.

I was trying to wrap my mind around 5 cars backed up behind me or anyone else in my subdivision. One the main 2-lanes, yes. We don't have anything other than 2-lanes out here. Note: I live within about 10 miles of DenverPilot.

I also get annoyed when people tailgate when I am going the speed limit, especially in their monster trucks when there is snow on the road.

It was only four and I was surprised too. Rush hour! LOL. ;)

Well if you're just in the passing lane and you're not passing anyone, you can't act surprised when things like this happen

The worst offenders are the police. We came upon three squads a few nights ago, all lined up behind some poor sap. They were lit up like the Close Encounters mother ship, absolutely blinding us and everyone approaching. We had never seen anything like it.

There could have been an elephant carcass in the road, and I would never have seen it. Everyone was creeping past at 10 mph, creating an enormous traffic jam -- not because we cared what was going on but because we were blind.

They have gotten a little nutty with the brightness levels on the new LEDs. It really is dangerous. Especially away from city lights. Can't see **** passing stopped emergency vehicles anymore at night.

It didn't mention the speed limit; it mentioned the flow of traffic:
"As used in this section a slow moving vehicle is one which is proceeding at a rate of speed less than the normal flow of traffic at the particular time and place."

I'm just saying; when even ONE person is lined up behind me, I assume they have a medical emergency, or are in some other huge hurry, or just like to drive faster. Why would I want a monster truck (or any other car) 6" off my bumper? If I can let them go by, they keep speeding on their merry way, and now they are "running interference" for me (cops will pull them over before me, perhaps).

It isn't my business if they want to speed or not; I'm not the police. It's like a bike path; if I had people, even one, lined up behind me, trying to say "on your left" (which is very difficult to say in a car, all you can do is hint that you'd like to pass), I wouldn't ignore them, I'd try to courteously let them go by me. Why, in cars, do people want to have people behind them instead of trying to get them to go by? #foreverconfused

They were beat up a lot in school and now have to get back at everyone.

Because they have a right to control the lane in their mind. Here in AR, I call them Winnebagos on the freeway. They get in the left lane and "camp" at 69 miles per hour. Cars stack up, they don't give a ****. You give them a look as you unsafely pass on the right and they don't give a ****. They pass the big signs that say slower traffic must keep right, they don't give a ****. People get ****ed and pass right, then cut in on them to send a message and they get ****ed like you just called them a derogatory name, "Which you probably already have", but they still don't give a ****.

Two lane roads are tough anyway to stack it. Ol folk are not as capable drivers at 55 on the back windy roads, so now we are at 44 and 32 in turns. Pass when the lines break and move on. I don't get all ****y with them. Its the freeway ass holes that really rub me raw. Move the F over and let traffic flow. You are not the cops and its against the law to left lane it and hold up traffic, even if they are speeding. The failure to give way is a violation and the speeding is a violation. Both are wrong. But one messes up the system much more than the other. Just like truckers going side by side for literally miles because neither with unclick the cruise control and pass and .8 MPH fast than the other. Saw it yesterday and there were 16 cars all going 66 MPH behind that ass muncher.

I talked to one Trooper who will sit in the middle of the highway. If he sees a lane camper and hits them with radar to discover sub-speed limit speeds with a line behind them or a long break in traffic, then a car holding a bunch of them up, he will light them up. I say good. Give em a ticket and maybe next time they will learn where the slow lane is at.

I love Texas, where the signs say left lane for passing only. If you ain't passing, move to the right. Period. Drivers in TX seem to do this pretty good for the most part. They "get it".

There really is only one solution for lane campers:

Why are people so impatient that they need to tailgate cars following the speed limit? 99.9% of these people are not facing a medical emergency.

I hate turtle races. I have literally driven 30 miles stuck behind two truckers trying to unsuccessfully pass.

That's what shoulders are for. Or exit/entry ramps. I have used those a couple times to pass two vehicles hat will not leave each others' sides.

Try being the guy standing a foot away from one of those light bars. Almost impossible from many angles to read a driver's license, see inside the violator vehicle, etc. It ain't the patrol officers who want them that bright, it's administrators who got a visit from the good idea fairy.

Only issue with shoulders is that around here they are not very clean. Very often there full of blown trucker tires and other random debris.

I've noticed that the state trooper cars are starting to use orange lights after they've pulled someone over. A deputy friend told me that he typically turns his off after pulling over, as he had the same issues.

I do agree that they are quite blinding.

WRT 2-lane roads, there are two types of road jerks here in South Texas.

1. The "Any Speed But Yours" guys. You can be going 15 over the speed limit, and they will still come zooming up on your bumper, because their only speed reference is the guy ahead of them.

2. The "Speed Limit is Too Fast and Scary" guys. These guys are terrifying, since they are often impaired by age or substances. They will go 5 under the speed limit, and slow down whenever the road turns or oncoming traffic is present.

And, of course, they speed up in the passing zones.

There is also a subset of this latter group that aren't impaired in any way. These are the guys who get their rocks off by looking in the mirror and seeing a snake of 15 cars behind them. These were the kids who were bullied in junior high, and are now getting back at the world in the only way they can. For them, it's about control.

I would support the death penalty for this latter group. They cause more accidents than the statistics reflect, and probably laugh about it.
