Mooney Airplane delivers 20 planes in Q1

http://www.bizjournals.com/search/bin/search?t=wichita&am=wichita&q=""&f=byline&am=120_days&r=20[font=Times New Roman,Times,Serif]Mooney Airplane Co., a single-engine airplane manufacturer with its sales and marketing office in Wichita, recorded new orders for 13 aircraft during the first three months of 2005.

During the same period, the company delivered 20 aircraft, matching its output for the final quarter of 2004 and more than doubling the output of the first quarter 2004.

The deliveries included 16 Ovation2 GX models, three Bravo GX airplanes and an Ovation DX airplane.

Based on 2005's first quarter results, the company believes 2005's total orders could exceed last year's orders of 85, says David Copeland, vice president of sales and marketing.

Mooney Airplane, based in Kerrville, Texas, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Mooney Aerospace Group Ltd. (OTC BB: MNYG), a general aviation holding company.

Mooney delivers record number of aircraft in first quarter

http://www.bizjournals.com/search/b...&am=sanantonio&q=""&f=byline&am=120_days&r=20[font=Times New Roman,Times,Serif]Mooney Airplane Co. on Thursday said it delivered 20 aircraft to customers from its factory in Kerrville during the first quarter of 2005. The company also received 13 new orders for planes during the same period.

The first-quarter performance represents a record level of new orders and deliveries for the company.

Officials with Mooney, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mooney Aerospace Group Ltd. (OTCB: MNYG), say based on the pace of first-quarter activity, by year's end, the company could more than double aircraft orders over 2004. Mooney received orders for 85 planes last year.

David Copeland, vice president of sales and marketing for Mooney, attributes the strong sales, in part, to the company's Freedom Tour, a nationwide marketing effort to introduce its Ovation2 GX, Bravo GX and Ovation DX models to prospective buyers.

The company has already been to six cities as part of its Freedom Tour.

"We will be traveling around the country to more than 30 cities before the Freedom Tour ends at the annual EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh (Wis.) at the end of July," Copeland says. "The 'buzz' over the performance of the Bravo and Ovation2 GX airplanes has helped stimulate sales during the first quarter, and we have already significantly increased the number of serious prospects and orders over the same period last year."

In addition, the company has added new sales representatives in the northeastern United States, California and Ontario, Canada, since the first of the year, which also should generate new sales, Copeland says.

Mooney is a Kerrville, Texas-based manufacturer of single-engine piston-powered aircraft. It has delivered more than 10,000 aircraft worldwide since the company was founded 1946.

Mooney's presence at Sun & Fun this year was much more impressive than in the last couple. They had planes on static display at Lakeland with many knowledgeable management and sales people there and were flying demos out of Plant City. I am admittedly biased, but the appearances now make this look like a solid company. I hope those considering Cirri or Lancairs at least test fly a new Mooney. Many of us want this company not only to survive but prosper.

Given the choice between an Ovation and an SR-22, I'd take the Ovation without hesitation.
