Centerline turbine negates need for yaw control (no rudder)??
Balls of steel, for sure...

Spiraling slipstream off a rotating propeller is not the main driver for rudder to maintain turn coordination; the need to overcome adverse yaw is. It looks like he's weight-shifting for roll (on a wright-brother sled?!?), avoids much of the source of adverse yaw without ailerons or wing-warping.

Putting his pelvis that close to a hot and high-speed turbine hot section looks mighty uncomfortable.

I have to say that lying there on cold iron would make me ponder my own mortality, but there's something about the sound of a turbine spinning up that would make me feel invincible. Would absolutely fly this...but preferably with a parachute and quick-release option!

I watched this fly at Oshkosh a few years back. Talk about stopping everybody in their tracks and just staring up at this weird contraption

Just watching it gives me a stiff neck.

The trailing edge surfaces are clearly hinged - it looks like pitch and roll are controlled with 'conventional' elevons deflected by tilting and/or sliding the sled the pilot is laying on.

Thank goodness he's wearing a [bicycle?] helmet. o_O

Nauga,
who would rather not be so impactful

When did the X-prize committee post an award for most useless airplane ever?

Did McDonald-Douglas prove that anything can fly with enough thrust with the F-4 Phantom II?

Seems like a cruddy spot to be if the turbine comes apart. Other than that, never thought it’d see a weight shift jet.

The seat belt quick release is on his back. Not gonna be much good.

I’d like to fly it if someone gave me a 1 Up mushroom before takeoff, otherwise I don’t think you could pay me enough.

Not sure why, but Will Ferrel’s scene talking about hang gliders from Wedding Crashers flashed through my mind watching that video.

"We demand affordable airframes with modern powerplants that run on jet a!"
"Very well."
"Wait, not like that!"

GeorgeC,
who brought you the rock you asked for

Looks like this is the culmination of some 20+ years of R&D.
