Persistence is not a strong characteristic in most people.
Maybe not, we live more and more in an instant gratification world, if you can't get what you want right away it's not worth the effort..

but to look at it a little more objectively.. for the time and money and effort it takes to become a professional pilot only to earn pathetic wages for several years you could go to management school and get a starting salary $70K-$80K and earn those same "airline pilot wages" within a few years and then likely pass them.. not to mention being home every night for dinner

You have to really *really* want to fly big planes for a living

It’s a way of life more than a career. It’s been said many times on this board. It is one of the truths one can find on the internet.
