If someone got their 3rd class medical and then stopped flying for a while (assume medical expires), could they solo, complete their training, and take their check ride under BasicMed?

How long is a while ? Your third class must have been done after 2006.

Actually, after July 1, 2004 would do the job.

July 2004? Odd. I always thought it was July 2006

The requirement is to have held a medical after July 14, 2006. A medical issued in July 2004 would still be valid and held in July 2006.

Unless, of course, your medical had an SI that expired sooner.

Ah, you’re right. It must have been valid vs issued as of July 2006.

    Good catch.

Did mine with Basicmed. It’s just much easier and valid longer for us guys over 40.
