McD's Superbowl ad

Every college or college town seemingly has a place like that. For me (Rochester, NY) it was a greasy spoon called "Nick Tahou's" that grew out of a hot dog stand to an all-night grill that attracted cops, drug dealers, prostitutes, and college kids. The dish was called a "Garbage Plate", and was a paper plate filled 1/2 with macaroni salad (right out of the tub), the other half with home fries (baked beans could be subbed in or added), topped with your meat of choice: red hots - local dialect for hot dogs; white hots - local dialog for white hot dogs meant to approximate bratwurst -- hots were split lengthwise and cooked on a flat-top griddle; or 2 hamburger or cheeseburger patties. Sprinkle raw onions, squirt some yellow mustard, spoon a thin chili-like meat sauce, and add hot sauce to taste.

It's a sensory-triggered memory thing, like how smelling moth balls reminds some people of their grandmother's house. Now some time on from my college years, I'm embarrassed to say how recently it is that I've had a garbage plate.

I had a bad case of the drunk munchies one time and used JITB as a starting point, ordering two of their biggest double cheeseburgers, something with sourdough and another with bacon. That didn't quite do it, so on the way back I stopped at McD's for a couple of double quarter pounders with cheese. That STILL didn't do it, so I ordered one more.

That's a lot of food even for me. I was feeling gnarly the next day.

That is a lot of drinking when you are ordering the "Something with sourdough and another with bacon"

Question for all the smart people here..

Back in Fla during the 50's -60's - 70's and early 80's there was a hanburger chain called Royal Castle..... Small burgers and buns, grilled onions etc...

About mid 70'd they had a promotion where all burgers were 5 cents for one day......

Is Royal Castle and White Castle one and the same ??:dunno::dunno::dunno:

Nope. The closest thing we have to White Castle in the south is Krystal. Which is pretty darn close. Royal Castle was a sort of knockoff. Royal Castle root beer was a treat when I was a kid. Some of the Royal Castle buildings are still around here.
Most are still restaurants of one kind or another.

So, has anyone paid for a McD's meal without cash? What did they have you do?

For those unaware, McDonalds says they will "charge" random customers to express "lovin" instead of pay cash for their meals.

My wife just got a call from our youngest son. He called to say he loved her. She asked him if he needed money. He said no, he just called to say he loved her. She asked him where he was. He said, "I'm at McDonalds." That's when it all became clear.
