May Day, May Day

I'm no parent but... I have a feeling that girl is going to grow up to be one of those people who just can't handle stress.

Anyway, whoever came up with the Elf on the Shelf thing is a genius.

They were saying on the news today how the whole elf on a shelf thing was some sort of xmas tradition. I had never heard of it until this year. I guess I somehow missed out on this tradition. :dunno:

A tradition since 2005 when the Aebersold and Bell came up with that cash maker.

More lucrative than some of the previous, less commercialized traditions like Rudolf and the Little Drummer Boy.

We do it. They are deathly afraid of touching Charlie!! Charlie cooked pancakes this AM. Yesterday Charlie rearranged the ornaments on the tree. The day prior, Charlie ate a whole bowl of Reese's minis and left the wrappers all over the place.

He also like to,play Legos, bungy jump, has also been caught by mommy with some swill on his breath and holding her vibrator too with empty condom wrappers and a stuffed bunny looking ravaged.

We have one and I hate it.
I think it is a stupid "tradition" and someone is making a killing selling these 50 cent dolls for 30 bucks.

I also hate lying to my kids. I am not allowed to pull them aside and tell them that this is B.S.

Yea, but it's for the children, right? I have come close to telling them when momma shut down a booty call so she could dream up what Charlie was going to do next.

So yea, I got cock-blocked by a effin doll.

Not that we needed to know.

Never heard of this grinch on a shelf thing. Sounds about as traditional as decorating your iPhone with an ornament app.

Good job parents: You terrorized your daughter with lies and idolatry, then the police came to make sure she'd be afraid to ever use the phone again as well.

Classic fairy-tale ending: 'Isabella apologized. She touched the elf on a shelf. She won't call 911 again.' The moral of the story is "never dial 911."

I thought we weren't supposed to talk about religion here.

Oh, you were just talking about the Elf.

Never mind.

This is why society is getting dumber with each passing moment.

Conditions children to accept NSA spying on us. If an elf can report back to Santa, then it must be ok for the police, neighbors, and or your kids friend to report your activities to the government.

...or so say the tin hat people.

WTF...happened to just the plain old Santa knows bit? Now we have to have this creepy demented looking doll that we put all over the house...

Dumbest tradition ever.:dunno:

Wow. 10 years now. I am certainly out of the loop. I guess this is just more proof that not having kids was a good idea.

wtf is an elf on a shelf?

Exactly.

..

Unless of course the burger joint screws up your order.

:rofl::rofl: You know this is just how religions start.:yes:

I don't know if this is why society is getting dumber but it sure is proof that it is happening.

It's actually a very old custom. My mother did it when I was a kid, and it was an old custom even then. There were elves in every room. If a room didn't have a shelf, then the elf would be hanging from a cabinet handle or thumb-tacked to a wall through the string attached to its pointy hat. The elves infested most of my friends' homes, as well. It was considered bad luck not to have at least one elf in the house.

The idea was to remind the kids that Christmas was coming so hopefully they'd behave a little better. The threats that the elves were watching their behavior to report it to Santa, combined with children's gullibility and magical thinking, was an effective extortion tool. The idea that an elf would rat a kid out if the kid removed him from the shelf or turned him around to face the wall were just logical extensions of the blackmail theme.

I know nothing of the book that was the cause of Isabella's anxiety. But I know that the tradition of surveillance elves is an old one.

Yes.

As if Moms with children don't have enough work to do and junk to blow money on already. Moms don't have time to cook dinner and wash dishes, but they have time to eat out and for this crap.

Trust me - the elf is no angel. I think he has been taking lessons from the Monkey. Or 6PC. Or both.

Merry christmas everyone !

Christopher, the elf that stalked my family for the past couple of weeks, has disappeared for now. Kids left him a note and want him to come back ;-)

So, my wife has started this at my house, now. Not sure I how I feel about it. I will admit, it is fun seeing my kid excited when he finds the elf.

My daughter has been doing it with my grandson (not that SkyDog!) for the last few years and they have a good time. He's 7 and still a believer, I think. Good for them!
