You’d think they get get paid a second time whenever someone posts about alcohol issues in “medical topics”

Alcoholism is a hobby in the US. We glorify it and consider it weird that someone doesn't want to have a drink with us at a public gathering.

And (sadly) pilots are no exception. So yeah, not surprised Flying decided to capitalize on it.

Alcoholism is a disease. Not everyone who takes a drink suffers from alcoholism.
Perhaps, but how many people do you know that struggle from alcoholism that don't drink?

It doesn't have to be a disease to make it a bad fit for aviation. The ad is not a good look.

Not a picture of the wife on the desk at work, or the kids, but a whiskey glass with your plane's N number on it. Yep, that sounds like a great message.

Somehow this tune popped into my head:

The whole image is just sad. Staring comatose out the window. Alone. And the drink juuusssssttt out of reach. And the description...oof.

They call it a rocks glass, but that whisky is clearly neat.

The whole ad is AI trash.

As it should be. Unless the rocks have already melted.

I remember a big stink back in the 1970s when Flying Models magazine ran an ad for Hennessy Cognac. Lots of complaints about how it would corrupt any kids reading the magazine, I guess. I was a young teenager at the time and didn't see anything wrong with it.

But for Flying, it's no longer about, well, flying; it's about selling stuff to rich people, as Firecrown (the owner) has said:

"Firecrown reigns supreme as the category king in the affluent enthusiast community, setting the standard for how luxury hobbies and lifestyles are enhanced through an innovative content-to-commerce model.

We cater to those who combine a deep passion with the financial means to indulge..."

I think I am most annoyed by "N12354" as the example vs anything else. I don't understand why they did that.

Putting an N number on stuff doesn't really cross the "aviation style" bar for me. But it's holiday dreck, so.. meh?

I do find a lot of humor in some advertising, especially when the target is narrow; I have fond memories of the endless light beer & viagara ads that used to run when Lance was winning doping his balls off at all those bike races ...

Do they charge for it? Serious question. I used to have a bunch of subscriptions to things I liked to read, then went through a lean financial period quite a while back and dropped them all...and haven't missed them. Now I enjoy the lack of junk mail. I'm partly asking because there are some organizations that won't let you subscribe without also getting one of their magazines or their paperwork. I've dropped those from my life, primarily because of that.

I was at a twin peaks one time when a Guinness rep was there. They were giving away Guinness glasses that you could have something etched in them.

They're going to need to up their game to grab my attention at that venue.

I remember growing up watching the old pilots sit around in the hangar after flying, smoking their pipes or cigars and having a drink. It's a time in my life I remember fondly. I now do the same, except I don't smoke. I love to have a drink after a good day of flying and if it's an aviation-related alcohol, or I can drink if from an aviation-themed glass, all the better. Maybe I'm their target.

On a related note, apparently I'm an influencer now! Flare sent me a nice glass set to thank me for the kinds words about their bourbon.

Will it fit in a Cirrus cupholder?

Somehow this tune popped into my head...
Why not? Instacart has used a song about crystal meth in commercials, and Garnier Fructis and Carnival Cruise Lines have used songs about heroin.

Nauga,
who knows B Kliban was right
