Kitplanes is part of Firecrown. Firecrown is killing everything it touches and I'd bet Mark sees the handwriting on the wall. I've complained elsewhere that I'm due to re-subscribe to Kitplanes, but their only offer has been ~$45/yr, which seems a bit steep to me. Probably 2X what I've paid previously. And with them killing publications and rolling all the subscriptions into Flying, I'm just not up for it. The last thing I want is a subscription to Flying, which has transitioned from being a great enthusiast magazine to a Luxury Real Estate/Expensive Jet lifestyle magazine. Sorry, not interested in that when they pull the plug on Kitplanes...Marc posted on LinkedIn that he's found a new opportunity. If you dig a little deeper, that luxury real estate is also a product of the owner of Firecrow. They were looking for investors a year or two ago so I dug into the prospectus. And chose not to invest.Even Kitplanes is now showing luxury real estate ads now. I'm wondering how things will go on the other side as I write the occasional article for Kitplanes. Their executive editor who I usually dealt with also left a few months ago.
I don't think they're killing off the other magazines. I've been working with Cayla McLeod on a few upcoming articles for Plane & Pilot. She's a writer and editor for Plane & Pilot as well as Kitplanes. She's good for the industry and I'm glad they brought her onboard. It's nice to meet young people with a passion for aviation. Seems like they're giving her a lot of choice on her articles and I can say the four we just worked on are all different, all interesting, and all but one are geared toward the average GA pilot.Kitplanes is part of Firecrown.
