Man, that Costco Membership really pays off!

I don't get Wheels Up. So you join for $8000 a year to basically get the same hourly rate that you can get as a retail customer on JetSuite?

Costo member price is $17499 and you get a $3500 cash card, so net $14k.
Then you pay per flight hour.

The ride in a King-Air or Citation would be awfully nice, I'm sure, but I would be hard pressed to spend $3500 at Costco. There are only so many 30-count packs of toilet paper that we can fit in our basement.

Get a bigger basement...you can never have too much toilet paper!

yeah, I know ... but it was the best I could come up with at the time ... how's retirement?
Freedom!

I watched the stuff I'm taking go down the road today. Leaving Colorado is bittersweet but I can't justify having two residences any more.

Use the jet to fly to Venezuela. Sell the toilet paper. Profit.

When are we having the going-away party?

It will have to be when I get back from watching my stuff get delivered. The Memorial Day weekend time frame you were looking at in the other thread is probably OK and I'll be here thru June at least. My house isn't on the market yet. I still have a LOT of stuff to get rid of, but I don't have enough good stuff for the estate sale companies. Unfortunately it looks like I need to do it myself. People have suggested Craigslist or Nextdoor. Colorado POAers, make me an offer and haul it away!

One option is to contact St Vicent DePaul, Goodwill or other charity as appropriate. I did this with Dad's house in Phoenix. I packed up what I wanted on the truck and SVdP came with 3 guys and a bigger truck to take everything else. Clothes, furniture, kitchen stuff, etc.

We could have the POA meet at your place, and everyone take something away...?

My problem is getting them to come out here since the house is a ways out of town but maybe they would come for a house full of stuff. I'll probably try Nextdoor first. Heck, I got someone to come out for a pile of old firewood. Of course it was free, but it was pretty old and not cut into appropriate lengths. Or, I'm serious if anyone from POA wants a looks at it. Not just furniture; garden supplies, tools, filing cabinets, other misc. household stuff...

LOL. This is timely since I just put in an order for TP and Paper Towels that'll easily last six months on Amazon Prime today. LOL! Plus I love goofing around with those huge cardboard boxes. They're big enough I can get inside one. Hahahaha.

They also, surprisingly, now carry our dog food and with an 85lb and 45lb dog, we go through the stuff. Now it's going to get dropped on the porch monthly... I'm sure our UPS guy will love us. LOL.

Total difference in price, +$4 a shipment. Same deal with their treats. Some months there'll be five items showing up and the dog food gets a 15% (wow!) discount in those months. First order only, qualifies to give a donation to a local charity, through Amazon Smile, too.

Hard to beat all that.

I guess I'm probably helping the demise of the PetSmart/retail. Dunno. Shrug. No more trips to town or stopping on the way home for dog food. Amazing.

You know Costco sells booze, beer and wine.
Plus steaks and such.
You'd be stupid NOT to join...

We quit. Stuff is packaged in too much bulk for two people without kids. Doing the math after moving rural, Amazon Prime pays back better for us.

Oh I joined. I buy gas, greek yogurt, berries, and paper products there. Don't need their other stuff, in the huge packages. The savings are enough to pay for the membership, but not by a wide margin. Tire prices are good, but TireRack.com is better.

I agree that with only two in the house it's a less attractive proposition.

If the cash card can be used with their car buying service, that would be a way to dispose of $3500 in a hurry.

We use Costco and there are just two of us. We have some regular stuff we buy there. Haven't really compared to Prime. We have the Costoc Visa and get a nice rebate check in February. For the cats and birds we've started buying from chewy.com

Get a vacuum sealer, repair Kate I to smaller quality titles and freeze it. I've eaten meat we vacuum sealed three years ago, and it looked fresh when we thawed it out . . . . The savings can be significantly. Food Saver is the brand, we buy the stuff in rolls when it goes on sale.

We thought about it, but it really requires more freezer space than we have. And a big deep freezer could handle the job, but we also have too many freaking power outages. I'd want the whole house generator project done before storing anything perishable that long, even frozen.

And there's also the time vs money thing. In general I can't see the value of adding a couple of hours to every bulk food shopping trip to repackage everything that can already be purchased in reasonable sized packaging for very little price difference.

Canned, jarred, dry goods, whatever would keep we would get from Costco, but I'm not kidding when I say we literally still have pasta we bought years ago that we haven't used yet. That stuff keeps fine but the Costco package of that stuff was just MASSIVE.

I even decided to start making a LOT more spaghetti when I make spaghetti this year at each cooking, for leftovers, just because that pasta has been there for so freakin long. LOL.

Still tastes and cooks fine. But we just didn't need packaging that big.

3500 will buy a lot of tampons! I have three girls in the house.......

One of our members (or former members) is a pilot for Wheels Up.

I've had the chance to hear their pitch - better from my standpoint than most frax and charters. But YMMV.

As for Costco, I'm a big fan. We save a lot each year, even over Amazon Prime. I'll be needing tires soon, best price in town. Again, YMMV.

If you have a buddy that's a Costco member, you can try to get him to sell you Costco cash cards. That's one way to shop Costco without a membership.

I think you can shop Costco through Google Express without a membership as well.

5 gallons of mayonnaise..!!!! It's enough mayo to last several life times. I got it because it was such a good deal....

I always liked the Family Guy where they thought a three-pack of pianos was a great deal... :-)

Can you get them in $17,999 denominations? Hahaha. Then others could take advantage of this deal!!!! LOL.

My cfi is now a King Air FO for Wheels Up. He retired from his day job and this is basically his retirement gig. He's still a cfi on the side too.

No booze in Colorado. Still protecting the mom & pop stores.
maybe I'm missing something subtle, but the Costco stores down here in the metro area all have attached booze stores ... separate from Costco but attached.

where to find the hooch (not hoochies) at Costco depends on the local regs. In California it's all inside. In Texas there is beer and wine inside and a liquor store attached.

Meanwhile, back to the thread: The $3,500 card is the same cost of how many flight hours? somewhere between .8 and 1.2?

They are also not owned by Costco, so they're no different than the liquor stores in any other shopping center, price wise.

I wonder if there is Kirkland branded rum or wine or beer in the Costco stores in other states?

There is Kirkland wine and beer in our local store, but no hard booze. I'll look closer next time.

It's been a long time, but I remember Costco blue berry muffins being awesome. Huge doses of goodness. Eat one and gain a pound.

oh, yeah! And the fresh baked chocolate chip cookies they used to sell at the food court ... and the nachos! Doused in that canned processed cheese-type-simulation and covered in jalapeño slices. Alas, different, gone, and gone. OMG - I just INTENTIONALLY used an Oxford comma - somebody shoot me.

37 posts and not one reference to Idiocracy and Costco?

WheelsUp comes in to our FBO pretty frequently, I like dealing with them.

That's a lot of $1.50 Hot Dog Lunches.

I save the cost of the membership on Gas alone, plus it's Top TIer.

Cheers
