This is the third time this aircraft has been listed on ebay. In better times I am sure this airplane would have sold, now it's a example of the downfall that GA has taken.

Bad paint, bad interior, run out engine and old Narco radios. Even if everything checked out, it's either a project plane or one for the scrap yard.

The reality is that everything has end point. This plane is at it's endpoint. Vref is $12,900 and the minimum is $24,000.

"Not a fixer upper"... but it's 46 years old, engine past TBO, radios that date to the 60s, has not been well cared for (evident since it needs both paint and a new interior), and a seller with an attitude who can't tell the difference between a reserve and a starting bid.

Gee, wonder why it hasn't sold yet?

Ha, I say. Ha, ha, ha, ha, haaa. Oh my ribs. What next, Craigslist?

Bought and sold a plane on ebay. Much much much better venue than TAP, barnstormers etc... Got 20-30 times the interest in my Cherokee via ebay than all the others combined.

I like how all of the photos are from far away, and none of the interior! The only thing it has going for it is the new Top Prop...perhaps an $8k upgrade over the old AD props. Perhaps the engine isn't the original + 1 overhaul, and if so, there might still be some value in it. The rest of the plane needs a lot of TLC, though. If he needs to note that it has new wing tie downs ($25?) in the ad, then there really isn't much to highlight!

Still, if it has been in Vegas or similar dry country for a lot of it's life, it might be a good candidate for someone with more time and elbow grease to spare than cash.

Or if a long-term M20C owner was looking for spares, this plane could be bought and it might make sense. Put the new prop on the "good" plane, remove this engine and start the overhaul process, sell the old engine eventually as a running core. Remove the gear components on this one and refurb as time allows (paint and bushings), and swap in as desired. The control surfaces have value since they are susceptible to hangar rash and especially hail. Lots of potential value to the right buyer with the right mindset...

Just based on his demanding ad wording alone, I would pass. He's got an overpriced piece of **** but thinks he's in the drivers seat...on eBay...in this market...after it hasn't sold three times... Maybe his wife said he had to sell it.

It might help to wash it before he takes the pictures. ;)
His description of a 6/10 on the paint and 7/10 on the interior seem optomistic at best, that paint job wasn't an 8/10 when it was new!
It does have a new prop, but not much else going for it.
Engine: $20-25K
Paint:$12-15K
Interior: $5-10K depending on how wild you want to go
Avionics: $20K to start, the sky is the limit.
Even if you want a VFR Mooney with ugly paint and bad interior, you need a motor, so for $45-50K you can have an ugly Mooney with bad paint and interior and avionics that Orville Wright would have liked, with a fresh engine and prop. :D
